Convection and Dynamo in Newly Born Neutron Stars

Youhei Masada et al.

Summary: For the study of magnetohydrodynamic convection and dynamo activities in proto-neutron stars (PNSs), a simulation model within a box was constructed and solved with compressible MHD equations and additional physics. Different internal structures were analyzed, demonstrating the effect of rotation on convection and magnetism in PNSs, resulting in varied large-scale structures depending on spin rate and convection zone depth. A spontaneous large-scale magnetic component was observed in all models, with fully convective models exhibiting stronger magnetic fields compared to spherical-shell convection models.

On the Origin of Pulsar and Magnetar Magnetic Fields

Christopher J. White et al.

Summary: By studying the properties of dynamos in other astrophysical systems, we can gain insights into the generation of magnetic fields in neutron stars. Our simulations of core-collapse supernovae show that convective protoneutron stars can produce dipole fields of order 10^15 Gauss if the modified Rossby number is in the critical range.

Stellar Models of Betelgeuse Constrained Using Observed Surface Conditions

Tianyin Luo et al.

Summary: We study stellar models for Betelgeuse using the HR diagram and surface abundances as observational constraints. We find that initial mass, rotation velocity, and overshoot scheme impact the surface abundances and can be used as observational constraints. We investigate different initial mass models and examine the properties of red supergiants in detail. We find that the acceptable initial mass range for fitting Betelgeuse's surface abundances is 12-25 M (circle dot), but for nonrotating models, the range decreases to 15-24 M (circle dot).

A Spatially Resolved Study of Hard X-Ray Emission in Kepler's Supernova Remnant: Indications of Different Regimes of Particle Acceleration

Vincenzo Sapienza et al.

Summary: Researchers conducted a spatially resolved spectral analysis of the young Kepler's SNR to study the two different regimes of particle acceleration and found enhanced efficiency in regions where the shock interacts with a dense circumstellar medium. Combining hard X-ray spectra with radio and gamma-ray observations, they proposed that the observed gamma-ray emission is mainly hadronic and originates in the northern part of the shell.

Spatially Resolved RGS Analysis of Kepler's Supernova Remnant

Tomoaki Kasuga et al.

Summary: The distribution and kinematics of the circumstellar medium around a supernova remnant provide valuable information about the explosion of its parent supernova. Analysis of the Kepler's supernova remnant shows a blueshifted circumstellar medium component with velocities in the range of 0-500 km/s, as well as a central bar structure with blueshifted and redshifted regions. This is consistent with previous studies suggesting a runaway asymptotic giant branch star moving towards us in the line of sight.
