Pulsations in main sequence OBAF-type stars

J. De Ridder et al.

Summary: This study analyzes intermediate- to high-mass main sequence pulsating stars using Gaia DR3 data, revealing their oscillation characteristics and variability types, and confirming the relationship between empirical instability strips and theoretical predictions. The study also uncovers the presence of rotationally modulated variables and fast rotating gravity-mode pulsators. Additionally, an extensive period-luminosity relation for ffi Sct stars is derived.

L. Eyer et al.

Summary: This article summarizes the variability processing and analysis of the photometric and spectroscopic time series of 1.8 billion sources carried out for Gaia DR3. Through statistical and machine learning methods, 10.5 million variable objects were identified, including 9.5 million variable stars and 1 million active galactic nuclei or 'quasars', along with 2.5 million galaxies. This work provides a comprehensive catalog of variability analysis worldwide for researchers.

A classifier for spurious astrometric solutions in Gaia eDR3

Jan Rybizki et al.

Summary: The Gaia early Data Release 3 provides exquisite astrometric data for 1.47 billion sources and introduces a method to distinguish between good and bad astrometric solutions using a neural network. The method achieves high levels of purity and completeness and proves effective even for sources with positive parallaxes.

Velocity monitoring of γ Cas stars reveals their binarity status

Yael Naze et al.

Summary: The binary status of gamma Cas stars has been discussed theoretically, but systematic radial velocity monitoring has not been conducted until now. This study used high-resolution spectroscopy to determine velocities for 16 stars and identified six new binary systems, one of which is a potential quadruple system. Five additional gamma Cas stars were classified as "binary candidates" due to velocity variations.

The population of hot subdwarf stars studied with Gaia IV. Catalogues of hot subluminous stars based on Gaia EDR3

R. Culpan et al.

Summary: Based on the ongoing spectroscopic surveys and Gaia EDR3 data, this study compiled new releases of two catalogues of hot subluminous stars. The new catalogues provide more observational sources, improved accuracy in astrometry, and refined selection functions, particularly in crowded regions of the Galactic plane and towards the Magellanic Clouds.

Radial velocity variability and the evolution of hot subdwarf stars

S. Geier et al.

Summary: Hot subdwarf stars are likely formed by close binary interactions and represent a late stage in the evolution of low-mass stars. A study of radial velocity variability reveals completely different behavior between He-poor and He-rich hot subdwarfs. There is likely no evolutionary connection between these subtypes, and the majority of hot subdwarf stars are formed through binary merger channels.

New Variable Hot Subdwarf Stars Identified from Anomalous Gaia Flux Errors, Observed by TESS, and Classified via Fourier Diagnostics

Brad N. Barlow et al.

Summary: Detailed analysis of hot subdwarf stars can provide valuable insights into stellar parameters and the stage of stellar evolution. By analyzing Gaia DR2 data, 1200 candidate hot subdwarfs with significant photometric variability were identified. TESS observations of 187 selected candidates revealed that more than 90% of them exhibit significant photometric variations. The study found various types of variable hot subdwarfs, including cataclysmic variables and pulsating sdBV(s) stars.

Birth of a Be star: an APOGEE search for Be stars forming through binary mass transfer

Kareem El-Badry et al.

Summary: Motivated by the formation mechanism of Be stars, this study searched for Be stars with bloated, stripped companions in the APOGEE survey. One mass-transfer binary, HD 15124, was identified from a sample of 297 Be stars. The properties of this system are consistent with binary evolution models, indicating that binarity plays an important role in the formation of Be stars.

Gaia Early Data Release 3 Parallax bias versus magnitude, colour, and position

L. Lindegren et al.

Summary: The study found that the parallax bias in Gaia EDR3 data is dependent on factors such as magnitude, color, and ecliptic latitude of the source in a non-trivial way. While a definitive method for correcting the parallax is not yet possible, tentative expressions have been provided for researchers to use at their discretion.

Summary: In this study, we analyzed five gravity long-period pulsating hot subdwarf B stars observed by the TESS space telescope, and found remarkable similarities in both seismic and spectroscopic properties among them. The observed mean period spacings are in better agreement with models featuring modest convective boundary mixing, indicating the potential realism of these models.

Summary: We re-analyzed the light curves of 38 known Kepler SPB stars to detect direct non-linear resonant mode coupling among the largest-amplitude gravity modes. Results show that the majority of these stars reveal direct non-linear resonances based on the largest-amplitude modes, making them prime targets for non-linear asteroseismic modeling.

The Detection and Characterization of Be plus sdO Binaries from HST/STIS FUV Spectroscopy

Luqian Wang et al.

Summary: The B emission-line stars are rapid rotators likely spun up by mass and angular momentum accretion through mass transfer in an interacting binary, leading to the formation of hot sdO companions. Observations of a sample of Be stars using Hubble Space Telescope/STIS show the presence of hot sdO stars, which are hot, relatively faint, and slowly rotating, consistent with theoretical predictions. Comparison with evolutionary tracks suggests that the sdO stars are in the long-lived, He-core burning stage.
