Third data release of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program

Hiroaki Aihara et al.

Summary: This paper presents the third data release of the Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program (HSC-SSP), which includes data from three survey layers covering about 670 deg(2) in all five broad-band filters. The overall quality of the processed data has improved since the previous release, but there are still limitations in the data that users should be aware of before utilizing.

Milky Way Satellite Census. IV. Constraints on Decaying Dark Matter from Observations of Milky Way Satellite Galaxies

S. Mau et al.

Summary: We used the latest census data of satellite galaxies in the Milky Way to study the lifetime of particle dark matter (DM). By considering two-body decaying dark matter (DDM), we found that the decay of heavy DM particles significantly depletes the DM content of low-mass subhalos, making them more susceptible to tidal disruption. Using high-resolution simulations and comparing to observations, we excluded certain DDM models and provided strong constraints on the DM particle lifetime.

Constraining baryonic feedback and cosmology with weak-lensing, X-ray, and kinematic Sunyaev-Zeldovich observations

Aurel Schneider et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the role of baryonic feedback effects in cosmology using weak-lensing data and observations of gas around galaxy clusters. The results suggest that baryonic feedback effects are stronger than predicted by most simulations and show significant suppression at certain wave-modes. Furthermore, including baryonic effects in the analysis reduces the tension with Planck satellite data, indicating their contribution to reconciling observational and theoretical results.

A non-linear solution to the S8 tension?

Alexandra Amon et al.

Summary: Weak galaxy lensing surveys have shown a lower amplitude for the matter fluctuation spectrum than expected, while other measurements such as the expansion history and lensing of the cosmic microwave background anisotropies are consistent with the Planck ?CDM cosmology. In this paper, the authors suggest that the discrepancy can be explained if the matter power spectrum is suppressed more strongly on non-linear scales than previously assumed in weak galaxy lensing analyses. This explanation can be tested using future measurements of the matter fluctuation spectrum on linear scales.

Constraining decaying dark matter with BOSS data and the effective field theory of large-scale structures

Theo Simon et al.

Summary: In this study, we updated the cosmological constraints on two decaying dark matter models using BOSS-DR12 data and the EFTofLSS framework. The results showed that Planck data contributed the most to these constraints, and EFTofBOSS data significantly improved the constraints on the lifetime of decayed dark matter. Furthermore, we found that adjusting S-8 to match KiDS-1000 required a longer lifetime and a larger kick velocity.

Dark Energy Survey Year 3 results: Cosmology from cosmic shear and robustness to data calibration

A. Amon et al.

Summary: This work presents the Dark Energy Survey Year 3 cosmic-shear measurements and cosmological constraints based on an analysis of over 100 million source galaxies, while a companion paper provides further details. The measurements are consistent with the Λ CDM model and yield precise results for the clustering amplitude and S-8. The low-redshift measurements agree with the Planck Cosmic Microwave Background result, but the high-redshift prediction is lower. The measurements demonstrate internal consistency and robustness to calibration systematics and blending of galaxies. The precision of the cosmological constraints is mainly limited by modeling baryonic effects and intrinsic alignments.

Marika Asgari et al.

Summary: The study presents cosmological constraints using the fourth data release of the Kilo-Degree Survey (KiDS-1000), revealing tension with the Planck Legacy analysis predictions. The results from the fiducial COSEBIs analysis align well with other complementary analyses, indicating robust S-8 constraints dominated by statistical errors.

KiDS-1000 methodology: Modelling and inference for joint weak gravitational lensing and spectroscopic galaxy clustering analysis

B. Joachimi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a methodology for joint cosmological analysis using weak gravitational lensing and galaxy clustering data from multiple surveys. The analysis incorporates cross-correlations, develops a hybrid model for non-linear scales, updates calibration procedures, and assesses signal contributions from astrophysical effects. The study also validates likelihood and goodness-of-fit statistics, introduces a new prior on the structure growth parameter, and proposes an alternative estimator for S-8 weak lensing constraints. Systematic effects are shown to bias S-8 by no more than 0.1 standard deviations, with expected improvements in S-8 constraints compared to previous analyses.

KiDS-1000 catalogue: Weak gravitational lensing shear measurements

Benjamin Giblin et al.

Summary: This study presents weak lensing shear catalogues from the KiDS-1000 survey, evaluating the accuracy of the PSF model and validating the shear estimates. No significant non-lensing B-mode distortions were found in the data, with low amplitude of PSF residuals detected in the highest-redshift bins. The joint KiDS-1000 shear and photometric redshift calibration is deemed sufficiently robust for combined-probe gravitational lensing and spectroscopic clustering analyses.

Emulation of baryonic effects on the matter power spectrum and constraints from galaxy cluster data

Sambit K. Giri et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an emulator for baryonic suppression of the matter power spectrum based on a baryonification model with seven free parameters. The emulator can recover the power spectra of hydro-dynamical simulations with sub-percent precision and establish a connection between baryonic suppression, gas, and stellar fractions in haloes. Predictions of deviation from a dark-matter-only power spectrum using measured X-ray gas fractions lead to a constraint on suppression levels at various wave numbers, with a maximum of 20-28% at around k ≈ 7 h/Mpc (68% confidence level).

Summary: The study introduces a neural network emulator for baryonic effects in the non-linear matter power spectrum. By calibrating the emulator in a wide parameter space, the precision of the emulator is estimated to be 2-3% at specific scales and redshift ranges. Through comparison with various cosmological simulations, the accuracy of the emulator is validated.

The code allows users to work within a Python framework locally or through an online platform called PyCosmo Hub. By comparing with other codes, the accuracy of PyCosmo's theoretical predictions can be validated, making it an interactive and user-friendly multi-purpose cosmology calculation tool.

Linear cosmological constraints on two-body decaying dark matter scenarios and the S8 tension

Guillermo F. Abellan et al.

Summary: The S-8 tension refers to the discrepancy between the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and weak gravitational lensing determination of matter fluctuations amplitude. A model involving dark matter decay has been proposed to ease this tension, with potential implications for anomalous electron recoil excess reported by the Xenon1T Collaboration. Current CMB data alone may not distinguish between standard cold dark matter and decaying dark matter, but future CMB observations can detect the signature of decaying dark matter.
