Gaia Data Release 3 Astrometric orbit determination with Markov chain Monte Carlo and genetic algorithms: Systems with stellar, sub-stellar, and planetary mass companions

B. Holl et al.

Summary: Using the Gaia DR3 astrometric time series, we fitted the orbits of 1162 sources and obtained astrometric orbital solutions, with 198 solutions confirmed as valid. These solutions cover the mass range of planetary-mass companions, brown dwarfs, and low-mass stellar companions. Our sample has an estimated error rate of 5% to 10% based on verification and validation.

Stellar and substellar companions from Gaia EDR3 Proper-motion anomaly and resolved common proper-motion pairs

Pierre Kervella et al.

Summary: The multiplicity survey is significantly improved by using a combination of the PMa, CPM, and RUWE indicators, which enhances the exhaustivity of companion detection and improves accuracy. The detection of CPM companions for bright stars provides a useful proxy for estimating their distance with higher accuracy than the HIPPARCOS method.

Binary companions triggering fragmentation in self-gravitating discs

James Cadman et al.

Summary: Observations show that systems hosting close-in giant planets and brown dwarfs often have binary-star companions, suggesting that stellar multiplicity plays an important role in their formation. There is evidence that some of these objects may have formed via fragmentation in gravitationally unstable discs.

Summary: This article presents analytical methods for detecting and characterizing companions in astrometric time series using the Gaia space mission. The methods utilize linear periodograms and Fourier decomposition to estimate the orbital elements of companions. They are complementary to more computationally intensive numerical algorithms.

Precise dynamical masses of new directly imaged companions from combining relative astrometry, radial velocities, and HIPPARCOS-Gaia eDR3 accelerations☆,☆☆

E. L. Rickman et al.

Summary: Using long-term precise Doppler measurements and combining multiple exoplanet detection techniques, including radial velocities, astrometric accelerations, and direct imaging, this study reveals the existence of companions on long-period orbits with model-independent and precise dynamical masses. The discovery of new companions, as well as the update of dynamical masses of previously imaged companions, provides valuable insights for testing mass-luminosity relations and advancing high-contrast imaging of exoplanets and brown dwarfs.

Gaia Early Data Release 3 The astrometric solution

L. Lindegren et al.

Summary: Gaia EDR3 provides full astrometric data for 1.468 billion sources, including 585 million with five-parameter solutions and 882 million with six parameters, as well as mean positions at J2016.0 for an additional 344 million sources. Five-parameter solutions are generally more accurate and available for 93% of sources brighter than the 17th magnitude, with median uncertainties of 0.02-0.03 mas for parallax and proper motion at G = 9-14, and around 0.5 mas at G = 20. Extensive characterization of the solutions' statistical properties is provided, including the estimated angular power spectrum of parallax bias from quasars.

Search for associations containing young stars (SACY) VIII. An updated census of spectroscopic binary systems exhibiting hints of non-universal multiplicity among their associations

S. Zuniga-Fernandez et al.

Summary: Our study identified 68 spectroscopic binary (SB) candidates from a sample of 410 objects, suggesting a higher SB fraction in the youngest associations. The results are crucial for revising membership in young stellar associations and could indicate a non-universal multiplicity among SACY associations.

Demographics of Exoplanets in Binaries. I. Architecture of S-type Planetary Systems Revealed by the Radial-velocity Sample

Xiang-Ning Su et al.

Summary: This study reveals the distribution characteristics of S-type planetary systems in binary environments, identifying differences between close and wide binaries in terms of planetary systems as well as the presence of massive short-period planets in close binaries but not in wide binaries or single stars. Enhanced planetary migration, collision and/or ejection in close binaries are suggested as potential explanations for these features.

True Masses of the Long-period Companions to HD 92987 and HD 221420 from Hipparcos-Gaia Astrometry

Summary: Modern radial velocity surveys have led to the discovery of more long-period substellar companions in recent years. The Gaia mission's astrometry is expected to provide mass measurements for these long-period companions, and combining data from Gaia DR2 and the earlier Hipparcos mission can help measure true masses in favorable cases.

The data shows that in the new edition of HGCA, precision is improved through measurements of long-term proper motion, and evidence of locally variable frame rotations is observed.

Long-term stability of planets in and around binary stars

Harry A. Ballantyne et al.

Summary: Binary star systems can host stable planetary systems depending on their orbital parameters, with planets orbiting either the primary or secondary star, or around the entire binary system. N-body simulations in star-forming regions show that the fraction of binary systems capable of hosting stable planets at different semimajor axes and how this fraction evolves over time. The stellar binary fraction is the critical factor in determining the number of stable planetary systems in the Galaxy, with more single stars in stellar nurseries resulting in a higher fraction of stable systems.
