Viruses Infecting Greenhood Orchids (Pterostylidinae) in Eastern Australia

Hsu-Yao Chao et al.

Summary: The Australasian biogeographic realm is an important center of diversity for orchids, and this study explores the diversity of viruses infecting greenhood orchids in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. The study characterizes a previously uncharacterized virus, Pterostylis blotch virus (PtBV), and identifies several new viruses. The results suggest that PtBV represents a new species indigenous to Australia. It is also found that a polerovirus is likely an introduced virus infecting native orchids, possibly vectored by aphids.

Identification and molecular characterization of tea-oil camellia-associated totivirus 1

Z. -Y. Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel dsRNA virus was discovered in tea oil trees in China, with a complete genome containing two ORFs encoding a coat protein and an RdRp. Phylogenetic analysis suggests that this virus, provisionally named tea-oil camellia-associated totivirus 1, belongs to the genus Totivirus.

Development of a Topical Amphotericin B and Bursera graveolens Essential Oil-Loaded Gel for the Treatment of Dermal Candidiasis

Lupe Carolina Espinoza et al.

Summary: The study aimed to incorporate Bursera graveolens essential oil into an Amphotericin B topical gel to promote drug diffusion for the treatment of cutaneous candidiasis. Results showed that the gel exhibited good characteristics for topical administration and had higher drug retention within the skin, with lower Minimum Inhibitory Concentration compared to a formulation without essential oil.
