Description of two nitrogen-fixing bacteria, Geomonas fuzhouensis sp. nov. and Geomonas agri sp. nov., isolated from paddy soils

Shang Yang et al.

Summary: Two novel species of strictly anaerobic nitrogen-fixing bacteria, Geomonas fuzhouensis sp. nov. and Geomonas agri sp. nov., were isolated from paddy soils in China. These two strains showed high similarities to the genus Geomonas, but had distinct physiological and genetic characteristics. These findings indicate the discovery of new species within the genus Geomonas.

TYGS and LPSN: a database tandem for fast and reliable genome-based classification and nomenclature of prokaryotes

Jan P. Meier-Kolthoff et al.

Summary: Microbial systematics is influenced by genome-based methods and faces challenges from the increasing number of taxon names and associated sequences. Accurate and reliable high-throughput platforms like LPSN and TYGS are essential for handling the data efficiently. The updates include new features and expanded database content to provide easy access to the data.

Metagenomic analysis further extends the role of Chloroflexi in fundamental biogeochemical cycles

Manik Prabhu Narsing Rao et al.

Summary: Chloroflexi members are widely distributed and extensively studied. In this study, the evolution and metabolic potentials of 17 newly obtained Chloroflexi MAGs were evaluated using genome and HGT analysis. The results suggest that the MAGs might be novel and clarify the evolution of anaerobic photosynthesis.

Physicochemical and Microbial Diversity Analyses of Indian Hot Springs

Manik Prabhu Narsing Rao et al.

Summary: The present study conducted physicochemical and microbial diversity analyses of seven Indian hot springs, and found that temperature and pH influenced microbial diversity, with bacteria being the dominant group. Both culture-dependent and culture-independent methods revealed the potential of these springs to harbor novel microbial candidates and produce thermostable enzymes.
