The Stressful Personality: A Meta-Analytical Review of the Relation Between Personality and Stress

Five-factor model personality traits and grip strength: Meta-analysis of seven studies

Summary: This study examines the association between Five-Factor Model personality traits and grip strength. Higher neuroticism is related to lower grip strength, while higher extraversion, openness, and conscientiousness are associated with higher grip strength. Depressive symptoms mediate the association with neuroticism, while depressive symptoms and physical activity partly mediate the associations with extraversion, openness, and conscientiousness. Lower CRP partly mediates the association with conscientiousness. Sex and age moderate the associations, with stronger associations among males and younger individuals. Overall, higher neuroticism is a risk factor for low grip strength, while high extraversion, openness, and conscientiousness may be protective.
