Research on the indirect antiviral function of medicinal plant ingredient quercetin against grouper iridovirus infection

Mingzhu Liu et al.

Summary: A study showed that the natural ingredient quercetin can inhibit the replication of grouper iridovirus and establish the antiviral status of host cells by activating the IFN pathway. This finding provides evidence for the indirect antiviral function of quercetin against grouper iridovirus infection.

Effect of a diet enriched with sodium propionate on growth performance, antioxidant property, innate-adaptive immune response, and growth-related genes expression in critically endangered beluga sturgeon (Huso huso)

Ehsan Ahmadifar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of dietary sodium propionate on the growth performance, antioxidative and immune responses of beluga sturgeon. The results suggest that feeding 2.5-5 g/kg of sodium propionate can improve the growth performance, feed utilization, and wellbeing of beluga sturgeon.

Effects of acute heat stress on liver damage, apoptosis and inflammation of pikeperch (Sander lucioperca)

Enguang Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of acute heat stress on apoptosis, oxidative stress, and immune response in pikeperch. The results show that acute heat stress leads to liver damage, increased apoptosis, and activation of the p53-mediated mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. Additionally, heat stress also activates immune genes and may contribute to a vicious cycle between oxidative stress and inflammation.

Interactive effects of dietary quercetin nanoparticles on growth, flesh antioxidant capacity and transcription of cytokines and Aeromonas hydrophila quorum sensing orchestrating genes in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

Doaa Ibrahim et al.

Summary: The study found that the use of quercetin in encapsulated nanoparticles could significantly improve fish performance, immunity, flesh quality, antioxidant indices, and disease resistance. Higher levels of QT-NPs in fish diets led to increased body weight gain, improved feed efficiency, reduced meat antioxidant markers, and enhanced immune responses. Overall, the supplementation of quercetin nanoparticles was shown to be a compelling approach to enhance fish health and combat against A. hydrophila.

Quercetin protects rare minnow Gobiocypris rarus from infection of genotype II grass carp reovirus

Jing Fu et al.

Summary: The plant-derived quercetin has been shown to effectively increase the survival rate of rare minnow Gobiocypris rarus from GCRV infection, while being safe in a dosage range of 30-480 μg/fish. Furthermore, quercetin protects rare minnow from GCRV challenge by decreasing progeny virus production and increasing fish survival rate. This demonstrates the anti-aquareovirus activity of quercetin in vivo, suggesting it as a promising environmentally friendly therapeutic agent for aquaculture.
