Salvia miltiorrhiza polysaccharides alleviates florfenicol induced kidney injury in chicks via inhibiting oxidative stress and apoptosis

Xiao Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the alleviating effect of Salvia miltiorrhiza polysaccharides (SMPs) on florfenicol (FFC)-induced renal injury in chicks. The results showed that SMPs improved average weight gain and renal index, alleviated pathological changes in renal structure, and had antioxidant and anti-apoptotic effects on renal tissue. These findings suggest that SMPs have potential as a protective agent against FFC-induced nephrotoxicity.

Effects of dietary Astragalus polysaccharides on growth, health and resistance to Vibrio harveyi of Lates calcarifer

Wei Yu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the supplementation of Astragalus polysaccharides (APS) can have beneficial effects on the growth, health, and resistance to Vibrio harveyi of Asian seabass. APS supplementation at 0.10% to 0.20% significantly improved the growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, and intestinal health of Asian seabass. Furthermore, APS supplementation enhanced the antioxidant capacity and immune function of the fish. However, a higher concentration of APS (0.20%) had adverse effects on the growth and immune response of Asian seabass.

Effect of Salvia miltiorrhiza aerial parts on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, and digestive enzymes in rabbits

Jiajia Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that adding 9.0% Salvia miltiorrhiza aerial parts can improve growth performance and promote nutrient digestibility in rabbits, while also beneficial for digestive enzyme activity. The level of herb addition has some impact on nutrient digestibility and digestive enzyme activity in rabbits.

Intestinal villus structure contributes to even shedding of epithelial cells

Yuto Kai

Summary: The finger-like shape of villi tightens regulation of shedding-cell ages, allowing epithelial cells to shed at around the same age to limit early shedding or prolonged stay in the epithelium. Computational simulations and mechanical conditions support the important roles of villi in the homeostatic maintenance of the small intestine and the applicability of this approach to tissues with collective cell movement.
