Optimal methionine supplementation improved the growth, hepatic protein synthesis and lipolysis of grass carp fry (Ctenopharyngodon idella)

Ke Ji et al.

Summary: This study formulated six experimental diets with graded methionine levels to quantify the dietary methionine requirement and assess its impact on protein and lipid metabolism in Ctenopharyngodon Idella fry. The results showed that appropriate dietary methionine intake improves growth, feed utilization, and protein synthesis, while methionine deficiency tends to enhance hepatic lipid synthesis.

GCN2: roles in tumour development and progression

Lyssa T. Gold et al.

Summary: GCN2, an eIF2 alpha kinase, rewires cell metabolism under amino acid starvation stress and has potential as an oncotarget, with studies reporting development of small molecule inhibitors. Overexpression of GCN2 in tumors may play a crucial role in maintaining cancer cells' survival and promoting chemotherapeutic resistance in cancer stem cells.

Effects of dietary methionine on growth performance, muscle nutritive deposition, muscle fibre growth and type I collagen synthesis of on-growing grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella)

Chuang-Chuang Fang et al.

Summary: In this study, the effects of dietary methionine levels on the growth performance, muscle nutrient deposition, muscle fiber growth, and type I collagen synthesis in grass carp were investigated. Optimal methionine levels were found to improve feed intake, feed efficiency, muscle protein content, and muscle fiber diameter distribution, possibly through the regulation of specific signaling pathways. Based on the results, the methionine requirements for grass carp growth were estimated.

Effect of dietary methionine on growth performance, lipid metabolism and antioxidant capacity of large yellow croaker (Larimichthys crocea) fed with high lipid diets

Jiamin Li et al.

Summary: Dietary methionine did not affect growth performance in juvenile large yellow croaker fed with high lipid diets, but improved lipid metabolism and increased antioxidant capacity in the liver. Additionally, it reduced the size and number of liver lipid droplets.

Effects of DL-methionine and a methionine hydroxy analogue (MHA-Ca) on growth, amino acid profiles and the expression of genes related to taurine and protein synthesis in common carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Yuanyuan Zhou et al.

Summary: This study showed that dietary supplementation of DL-Met or MHACa can significantly improve the growth performance and feed utilization of common carp, increase the concentration of free essential amino acids in serum, enhance taurine synthesis and protein synthesis. Furthermore, DL-Met significantly increased the expression of CDO and CSD, and the research also found that the bioavailability of MHA-Ca in common carp is lower compared to DL-Met.
