Effects of dietary vitamin D3 levels on survival, mineralization, and skeletal development of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) larvae

U. Sivagurunathan et al.

Summary: This study assessed the effects of dietary vitamin D-3 on the growth, calcium absorption, mineralization, and skeletal anomalies in gilthead seabream larvae. The results showed that an optimal level of vitamin D-3 improved larval survival, calcium and phosphate levels, and vertebral mineralization while reducing the incidence of skeletal anomalies.

Vitamin nutrition in salmonid aquaculture: From avoiding deficiencies to enhancing functionalities

Angela Liu et al.

Summary: Recent advances have challenged the established vitamin requirements of salmonids, and the need to revise the vitamin contents in feed is further highlighted with the use of more sustainable ingredients. Optimizing vitamin nutrition is crucial for the sustainable development of the salmonid aquaculture industry.

Vitamin D3 identified from metabolomic analysis of intestinal contents promotes an antibacterial response in shrimp intestinal immunity

Ming-Chong Yang et al.

Summary: The study identified 39 metabolites that significantly changed in shrimp intestines after Vibrio challenge. It was found that vitamin D3 metabolism was enhanced in shrimp intestines after Vibrio challenge, and oral administration of 0.1 mg/kg vitamin D3 effectively improved shrimp survival rates infected with V. parahaemolyticus. Transcriptomics analysis indicated that vitamin D3 played a role in shrimp intestinal immunity by activating the prophenoloxidase system and Toll signaling pathway to induce the expression of antimicrobial peptides.
