Modeling and multi-objective optimization of variable air gasification performance parameters using Syzygium cumini biomass by integrating ASPEN Plus with Response surface methodology (RSM)

Deepak Kumar Singh et al.

Summary: This study developed a robust method for modeling and optimizing variable air gasification parameters using ASPEN Plus simulator and Response Surface Methodology (RSM). A comprehensive thermochemical equilibrium-based model of downdraft gasifier was developed by minimizing Gibbs free energy, and good agreement was attained between simulated and experimental results. The air gasification process was modeled in four phases, including biomass drying, decomposition, gasification, and gas filtration, with sensitivity analysis performed to obtain syngas composition and optimize gasification performance.

Energy and exergy analysis of MSW-based IGCC power/polygeneration systems

Wei Wu et al.

Summary: Utilizing municipal solid waste (MSW) as feedstock for energy production is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly technology proposed in three configurations: MSW-based IGCC power system, MSW-based IGCC polygeneration system, and CaO-based IGCC polygeneration system. Each design offers different advantages in terms of energy efficiency, CO2 emissions, and overall exergy efficiency.

Emergy evaluation of the integrated gasification combined cycle power generation systems with a carbon capture system

Siyue Ren et al.

Summary: The research conducted emergy analysis on coal and biomass based IGCC power generation systems with/without CCS, showing that the sustainability of systems can be improved with the integration of CCS but will result in increased investment costs. It was found that under high CO2 tax values, adopting CCS can further enhance the sustainability of IGCC systems.
