A grinding force predictive model and experimental validation for the laser-assisted grinding (LAG) process of zirconia ceramic

Zhelun Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, a predictive model for grinding force during laser-assisted grinding (LAG) process is established, taking into account the mechanical properties of the material, micro interaction between grit and material, and random shapes and distributions of abrasive grits. The model explains the mechanism of reduction in grinding force during LAG. Experimental validation and investigation of grinding parameters show that optimal parameters can significantly reduce grinding force and improve surface integrity.

300 fs pulsed laser ablation of Al2O3 ceramic and introduction of a predictive model

Jodok Weixler et al.

Summary: In this study, a calculation routine for predicting the ablation topography considering the angle of incidence and pulse-by-pulse evolution of the ablated surface is presented. The laser processing of Al2O3 ceramic is investigated, and the threshold fluence is compared for different process configurations, showing that lower scanspeed leads to a higher removal rate. The method's accuracy is evaluated through an ablation experiment.

All laser-based fabrication of microchannel heat sink

Haoyu Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, an all-laser fabrication method is proposed to fabricate a microfluidic heat sink for silicon devices. The microchannels are engraved on a silicon wafer using lasers, and inlet/outlet holes are drilled on a quartz glass cover. The heat generated by the device is successfully removed by the fabricated microfluidic channel.

Femtosecond laser modification of silicon carbide substrates and its influence on CMP process

Xiaozhu Xie et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on enhancing the efficiency of chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) of hard-to-process SiC substrates by irradiating them with femtosecond laser. The effects of different laser processing parameters on the surface morphology of SiC were discussed, along with the influences of surrounding conditions. It was found that the formation of Si-O compound on the laser-irradiated SiC surfaces and the creation of uniform periodic ripple structures can improve surface flatness.

MD simulation of two-temperature model in ion irradiation of 3C-SiC: Effects of electronic and nuclear stopping coupling, ion energy and crystal orientation

Jintong Wu et al.

Summary: The numerical study investigated swift ion induced effects in crystalline 3C silicon carbide by the two-temperature model, revealing that only a minority of defects formed in the system during the ionization dominance stage, while a dramatic increase of damage occurred in the nuclear stopping stage. Sparse atomic arrangement perpendicular to the implantation direction reduces the response of the atomic subsystem during low-energy ion implantation.
