Electrocatalytic enhancement mechanism of cobalt single atoms anchored on different MXene substrates in oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions

Xin Zhao et al.

Summary: Decorating single atoms of transition metals on MXenes enhances the electrocatalytic properties of the resulting composites. In this study, cobalt single atoms were anchored onto several commonly used MXene substrates, and the electrocatalytic behavior and mechanisms were systematically studied. The Co@V2CTx composite showed lower overpotentials for oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions compared to other composites, making it comparable to commercial noble metal electrocatalysts. The enhanced catalytic performance of Co@V2CTx was attributed to optimized electronic structure and accelerated catalytic kinetics. This study sheds light on the origins and guidelines for designing efficient MXene-based electrocatalysts.

Controllable Constructing Janus Homologous Heterostructures of Transition Metal Alloys/Sulfides for Efficient Oxygen Electrocatalysis

Qi Lu et al.

Summary: Constructing novel heterostructures is an effective approach to enhance the oxygen electrocatalytic properties of catalysts. In this work, a new class of Janus homologous heterostructures composed of transition metal alloys and their corresponding sulfides (TM/TMS) were synthesized through an ultrafast high-temperature shock strategy. The controlled composition and stable structure of TM/TMS heterostructures lead to improved oxygen catalytic performance. The zinc-air battery (ZAB) using FeCo/(FeCo)S nanocomposites as air cathodes demonstrates impressive durability and power density.
