Hole- and electron-injection driven phase transitions in transition metal dichalcogenides and beyond: A unified understanding

Xiao-Huan Lv et al.

Summary: In this paper, based on density functional theory calculations, it is demonstrated that hole injection drives the transition of the H phase more efficiently to the metallic T phase than to the semimetallic dT phase for group-VI-B TMDs. The smaller work function of the T phase compared to the dT phase is the reason behind this observation. Additionally, the analysis provides a unified understanding for both hole- and electron-injection induced phase transitions for 2D materials beyond TMDs.

Magnetic order and critical temperature of substitutionally doped transition metal dichalcogenide monolayers

Sabyasachi Tiwari et al.

Summary: Using first-principles calculations, the magnetic order in 2D TMD monolayers doped with transition metals was investigated, revealing five distinct magnetically ordered states among 35 TMD-dopant pairs. Different dopants result in different magnetic states, with Ni and Ti leading to non-magnetic states, Cr leading to antiferromagnetic states, and Fe, Mn, Co, and V leading to ferromagnetic states for most TMDs except MoTe2. V-doped MoSe2 and WSe2, and Mn-doped MoS2 were identified as the most suitable candidates for achieving room-temperature ferromagnetism at 16-18% atomic substitution.

Strain-controlled electronic and magnetic properties of tVS2/hVS2 van der Waals heterostructures

Dan Jin et al.

Summary: The T-phase and H-phase of the VS2 monolayer are both ferromagnetic semiconductors, forming a weakly interacting van der Waals heterostructure. The ferromagnetic state of the tVS(2)/hVS(2) heterostructure is found to be the ground state under normal conditions or biaxial strains, and can transition to a metal or half-metal under certain strains. This heterostructure has the potential to achieve 100% spin polarization at the Fermi level, which is significant for future spin transport exploration.
