Fluorinated TiO2 coupling with α-MnO2 nanowires supported on different substrates for photocatalytic VOCs abatement under vacuum ultraviolet irradiation

Yingguang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigates the role of fluorine doping in the photocatalytic activity of nanocrystalline titanium dioxide (TiO2), finding that F-TiO2 catalysts exhibit significantly higher toluene degradation efficiency compared to TiO2 and commercial P25 under VUV irradiation. Furthermore, the addition of a small amount of α-MnO2 increases the toluene degradation efficiency to 96% and eliminates residual O3, offering a promising strategy for VOCs abatement in industrial applications through the exploration of different substrates for catalyst coating.

Enhanced photocatalytic performance of PdO-loaded heterostructured nanobelts to degrade phenol

Ruixue Wang et al.

Summary: Heterostructured catalysts combining titanium dioxide nanobelts with palladium oxide nanoparticles exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of phenol and methyl orange. PdO-C-NB showed the highest degradation efficiency among the four catalysts tested, with a 61% degradation rate for phenol within 90 minutes, nearly double that of using NB. The enhanced photocatalytic property of PdO-C-NB was attributed to its large specific surface area, abundant photocatalytic active sites, and low recombination rate of electron-hole pairs.

Titanium Dioxide-Based Photocatalysts for Degradation of Emerging Contaminants including Pharmaceutical Pollutants

Rafal Krakowiak et al.

Summary: The growing problem of environmental contamination, especially in soil and water, is mainly caused by rapid population growth, urban expansion, and industrial development. Traditional remediation techniques are often ineffective in removing chemicals, leading to a demand for new approaches in water remediation. Photocatalysis, particularly using titanium(IV) oxide nanoparticles, has been considered as a potential solution for degrading chemical pollutants like drugs.
