Solid-Liquid State Transformable Magnetorheological Millirobot

Zhipeng Chen et al.

Summary: Magnetically actuated soft millirobots are highly sought after in biomedical settings for their ability to perform remote-controlled tasks using noninvasive magnetic fields. This study introduces a magneto-active solid-liquid state transformable millirobot, made from a magnetorheological fluid, that overcomes the limitations of existing solid and liquid magneto-robots. The robot can switch between a solid state, offering controllable locomotion and versatile object manipulation, and a liquid state, enabling large deformations and smooth navigation. It demonstrates diverse behaviors and accomplishes various tasks, such as liquid drug delivery and thrombus clearance, under magnetic actuation.

Origin of High Friction at Graphene Step Edges on Graphite

Zhe Chen et al.

Summary: The high friction at step edges on graphite surfaces is due to stick-slip behavior facilitated by topographical changes and atomic interactions, rather than the buckling or peeling deformation of graphene. Experimental results and simulations show that the mechanisms proposed have identifiable features in lateral force and vertical height profiles, with the stick-slip behavior being the main cause of high friction.
