3D Sensing System for Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy-Based Metal Scrap Identification

Seongyun Park et al.

Summary: Two image processing algorithms were proposed in this study to improve the accuracy of measuring the three-dimensional shapes of metal scraps and calculating the surface areas of metal scraps. It was confirmed that a 25% higher maximum classification accuracy was achieved when LIBS spectra were acquired from optimized surfaces rather than contaminated surfaces.

Role of laser fluence on ionic emission characteristics from steel plasmas induced in atmospheric air

Mohamed A. Khater et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spatially-integrated spectral emission measurements of singly-ionized species excited in laser-generated steel plasmas in air at atmospheric pressure via LIBS. The behavior of emission parameters of selected ionic spectral lines, such as signal intensities, background intensities, signal-to-background and signal-to-noise ratios, are followed while varying the incident effective laser energy fluence. The findings show that signal intensities exhibit a monotonic increase with laser fluence, while signal-to-noise ratios exhibit anomalous behavior with two distinctive maxima.

Summary: AC machines can encounter various faults during operation, for which Deep or Machine Learning algorithms can be utilized to detect fault patterns in the machine's E-Drive system DC current. This paper proposes a methodology for generating large datasets using Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) to address the issue of insufficient dataset for training the algorithms. The trained 1d DCGAN is capable of generating DC current signals for creating large datasets to train Deep or Machine learning models.

Classification of minerals and the assessment of lithium and beryllium content in granitoid rocks by laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

Patrick Janovszky et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the efficiency of LIBS mapping and spatially resolved local analysis for mineral classification and geological prospecting. Statistical approaches like CT, LDA, and RF show good classification accuracies, with RF and LDA performing better. Multiple analytical locations within each grain can provide more reliable discrimination, and LIBS elemental mapping combined with matrix-matched calibration can offer valuable information on element distribution. Mining for Be and Li in granitoid rocks should target biotite and amphibole grains based on the results.
