Alleviating Oxidative Damage-Induced Telomere Attrition: a Potential Mechanism for Inhibition by Folic Acid of Apoptosis in Neural Stem Cells

Zhenshu Li et al.

Summary: Folic acid deficiency can lead to various negative effects on neural stem cells (NSCs), while folic acid supplementation appears to have a dose-dependent protective effect by increasing cell proliferative capacity, telomere length, and telomerase activity, as well as decreasing apoptosis, telomeric DNA oxidative damage, and intracellular ROS levels. Additionally, exposure to H2O2 exacerbates telomere attrition and oxidative damage, whereas NAC alleviates the latter. High doses of folic acid are able to prevent telomere attrition and telomeric DNA oxidative damage induced by H2O2. Overall, folic acid may inhibit NSC apoptosis by reducing telomeric DNA oxidative damage and telomere attrition.

A Novel Review of Homocysteine and Pregnancy Complications

Chuce Dai et al.

Summary: Homocysteine is produced from daily diet and methionine metabolism, with MTHFR gene mutation related to its expression. High homocysteine levels can lead to various pregnancy complications, and reducing the levels may help prevent these complications.
