Investigation of lattice evolutions of tetragonal (Na0.5Bi0.5)TiO3-BaTiO3 single crystal by phonon modes in Raman scattering

Geng Huangfu et al.

Summary: In-situ polarized Raman scattering was used to study the lattice structure evolutions induced by temperature and electric field in (1-x%)(Na0.5Bi0.5)TiO3-x%BaTiO3 (NBT-xBT) relaxor ferroelectrics. It was found that electric field cannot induce ferroelectric state after the disappearance of frequency dispersion, indicating a competition between relaxor characteristics and long-range ferroelectric order with temperature. Additionally, no P4bm-P4mm transition was observed under high electric fields. This work explains the Raman scattering and lattice evolutions of NBT-8BT and proposes a method for analyzing Raman spectrum that is generally applicable to other ferroelectrics.

Giant electric field-induced strain in lead-free piezoceramics

Huangfu Geng et al.

Summary: A lead-free piezoceramic material with giant strain, large-signal piezoelectric strain coefficient, and comparable or better performance than commercial Pb(Zr,Ti)O3-based ceramics, has been successfully synthesized by a conventional solid-state reaction method. This material shows great potential for practical applications and can serve as a paradigm for the design of high-performance piezoelectrics.

Enhanced dielectric and piezoelectric properties of manganese-doped Pb(In1/2Nb1/2)O3-Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 single crystals by alternating current poling

Haotian Wan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that alternating current poling (ACP) is an effective method for enhancing the properties of Gen III relaxor-PT single crystals, significantly improving dielectric and piezoelectric properties, and increasing coupling factors and mechanical quality factor. The introduction of monoclinic phases and unique domain morphologies were identified as key factors in the property enhancement mechanism behind ACP, indicating its potential for high-temperature and high-power device applications.

Enhanced electric-field-induced strains in (K,Na)NbO3 piezoelectrics from heterogeneous structures

Mao-Hua Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes to use microstructural engineering to enhance the electric-field-induced strain of lead-free piezoelectrics. Through precise compositional tuning, enhanced properties were achieved by introducing heterogeneous ferroelectric-paraelectric microstructures, which significantly increased electric-field-induced strain.

Nanoscale bubble domains with polar topologies in bulk ferroelectrics

Jie Yin et al.

Summary: The authors demonstrate the achievement of self-confined bubble domains with multiple polar topologies, especially skyrmions, in bulk Bi0.5Na0.5TiO3 ferroelectrics. The phenomenon is driven by the interplay of bulk, elastic, and electrostatic energies of coexisting modulated phases. This leads to reversible and donut-like domain morphology evolution in the material.
