Strong four-phonon scattering in monolayer and hydrogenated bilayer BAs with horizontal mirror symmetry

Cuiqian Yu et al.

Summary: Recently, the important role of high-order anharmonic phonon-phonon interactions has been revealed in several materials. By solving the Boltzmann transport equation, the significant impact of four-phonon scattering on thermal transport in honeycomb structured monolayer BAs and its hydrogenated bilayer counterparts has been shown. After considering four-phonon scattering, the lattice thermal conductivity of all these structures is reduced, especially for monolayer BAs, which shows a huge drop of 80% mainly due to the suppression of phonon lifetimes. In contrast to graphene, the thermal conductivity of monolayer BAs is abnormally lower than its bilayer counterparts, attributed to the much larger phonon scattering rate. The contribution of flexural acoustic phonon exhibits the most significant reduction in both monolayer and bilayer BAs with horizontal mirror symmetry after including four-phonon scattering.

Ultrahigh Electron Thermal Conductivity in T-Graphene, Biphenylene, and Net-Graphene

Zhen Tong et al.

Summary: The presence of nonhexagonal carbon rings in graphene significantly affects its thermal conductivity, but there are still some dense and ordered arrangements of carbon rings in 2D carbon allotropes that allow thermal energy transfer. The phonon thermal conductivity is lowered while the electron thermal conductivity is enhanced due to the nonhexagonal rings.

First-principles and machine-learning study of electronic and phonon transport in carbon-based AA-stacked bilayer biphenylene nanosheets

Suman Chowdhury et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the structural, electronic, and thermal transport properties of AA-stacked bilayer biphenylene sheet using first-principles calculations and machine-learning interatomic potential approaches. The results show that the optimized geometry of the bilayer satisfies stability criteria and exhibits a metallic band structure. The thermal transport characteristics are analyzed in terms of thermal conductivity, Seebeck coefficient, and electrical conductivity variations. It is found that the thermal conductivity of AA-stacked bilayer Biphenylene increases linearly with temperature in the electronic part, while the lattice contributions show an inverse function of temperature. The negative thermal expansion properties of AA-stacked bilayer BPN suggest potential applications in tailoring the thermal expansion coefficient in practical situations.

Nanostructure engineering of two-dimensional diamonds toward high thermal conductivity and approaching zero Poisson's ratio

Yanxiao Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, the electronic, phononic, thermal, and mechanical properties of rectangular diamanes were comprehensively studied using first-principles calculations. The results showed that rectangular diamanes have a high Debye temperature and a strong in-plane Young's modulus, with close to zero Poisson's ratio observed in rectangular Pmma diamanes. Moreover, high lattice thermal conductivity and strong configuration and orientation dependence were demonstrated.
