Effect of Mg-doping and Fe-doping in lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin films on electrical reliability

Dongjoo Koh et al.

Summary: In this study, uniformly acceptor doped PZT films were tested and found to have decreased dielectric constants and remanent polarizations, leading to shortened lifetimes. Significant electromigration was observed in uniformly Mg-doped PZT films, contributing to their short lifetime. However, when a doped layer was deposited on undoped PZT or PNZT, the lifetime was increased.

Influence of graded doping on the long-term reliability of Nb-doped lead zirconate titanate films

Wanlin Zhu et al.

Summary: Niobium doped lead zirconate titanate (PNZT) films with varied manganese doping profiles have shown improved long-term reliability and excellent piezoelectric properties. Increasing manganese doping concentration resulted in longer time to failure for the films under aggressive test conditions. Additionally, electron trapping by manganese ions contributed to the suppression of conduction and enhancement of long-term reliability in PNZT films with a Mn-doped layer.

Avalanche criticality during ferroelectric/ferroelastic switching

Blai Casals et al.

Summary: Field induced domain wall displacements define ferroelectric/ferroelastic hysteresis loops, and the analysis shows that the avalanche characteristics in different ferroelectric materials are similar, with energy, area, and perimeter of the switched regions following power law distributions.

Residual Stress and Ferroelastic Domain Reorientation in Declamped {001} Pb(Zr0.3Ti0.7)O3 Films

Lyndsey M. Denis-Rotella et al.

Summary: In this study, the relationship between the thickness of ferroelectric films and their dielectric properties was investigated. A novel approach using X-ray diffraction and Rayleigh analysis was developed to deconstruct the relative permittivity into intrinsic, reversible extrinsic, and irreversible extrinsic contributions. It was found that the reversible extrinsic response accounts for approximately 50% of the overall relative permittivity, and is thickness dependent even after poling and release.

Thermally stimulated depolarization current measurements on degraded lead zirconate titanate films

Summary: This study investigates the migration of oxygen vacancies in PZT films and their impact on resistance degradation. By controlling the type and concentration of oxygen vacancies, as well as annealing conditions, the influence of oxygen vacancies on local defect chemistry and charge transport mechanisms is explored.
