Diffuse photon remission associated with the center-illuminated-area-detection geometry: Part I, an approach to the steady-state model

Tengfei Sun et al.

Summary: This study presents a model approach that enriches the understanding and applicability of diffuse photon remission in the center-illuminated-area-detection (CIAD) geometry. The research assesses the photon remission under different conditions and applies the model to experimental data.

Experimental validation of a recently developed model for single-fiber reflectance spectroscopy

Anouk L. Post et al.

Summary: The study developed a model for spectral measurements and validated it through simulations. Experimental validation was conducted to assess the model's feasibility, and a parameterization method was proposed to prevent overfitting. The parameterization improved fitting speed and enabled single fiber measurements.

Diffuse photon remission from thick opaque media of the high absorption/scattering ratio beyond what is accountable by the Kubelka-Munk function

Daqing Pia et al.

Summary: The KM theory faces limitations in predicting diffuse photon remission from strong-absorbing media, but empirical methods show that it depends on the absorption/scattering ratio. A slight modification to the KM function significantly improves the prediction accuracy of diffuse photon remission from thick opaque media with strong absorption.

Effect of optical magnification on the detection of the reduced scattering coefficient in the blue regime: theory and experiments

Channa Shapira et al.

Summary: Imaging turbid media is limited in range, but optical properties can be sensed at greater depths using the iterative multi-plane optical properties extraction technique. Analysis of reemitted light phase images enables extraction of the scattering coefficient range, which can be extended using optical magnification. Experimental results show that the technique can be adapted to different mu'(s) ranges by adjusting the magnification.

Diffuse photon-remission associated with single-fiber geometry may be a simple scaling of that collected over the same area when under centered-illumination

Tengfei Sun et al.

Summary: The robust models for single-fiber reflectance (SFR) are relatively complex due to the overlapping of the illumination and collection areas, which requires probability weighting of the spatial integration of photon-remission. Through analytical means and Monte Carlo simulation, it was demonstrated that diffuse photon-remission collected by single-fiber geometry could be scaled over the center-illuminated photon-remission, with similar results obtained for a medium revealing Henyey-Greenstein (HG) scattering anisotropy. This ratio remained consistent over a range of reduced-scattering fiber-size products and absorption variations.
