Investigation into the effect of energy density on densification, surface roughness and loss of alloying elements of 7075 aluminium alloy processed by laser powder bed fusion

Gan Li et al.

Summary: The study found that optimizing processing parameters can achieve higher relative density, but cannot fully eliminate the problem of hot cracks. Surface quality issues are related to severe balling phenomenon and large gaps between tracks. In terms of low-melting-point elements content, there is a linear relationship between VED and the loss of zinc and magnesium, but no influence on the loss of copper and chromium.

CO2 laser cleaning of cross-linked polymer coating on metal mesh

Yating Shi et al.

Summary: The pollution caused by chemical cleaning of polymer coatings during the recycling of printing screens can be reduced through laser cleaning. The study analyzes the interaction mechanism between laser beams and polymer coatings, constructs a laser ablation threshold model for cross-linked polymers, and discusses the principles of laser bonding and photoionization. The research findings provide a theoretical basis for further studies and serve as a reference for experiments and industrial applications.

Influence of surface roughness on nanosecond laser-induced shock wave enhancement effects

Lei Chen et al.

Summary: This paper proposes an effective method to improve the energy of shock waves generated by plasma diffusion and collision with gas. Experimental results using silicon targets with different roughnesses show that the intensity and energy of the shock waves increase with increasing target roughness.

Prediction of surface roughness in different machining methods using a texture mask feature extraction method

Hsu-Chia Pan et al.

Summary: In this study, a texture mask (TM) machine learning method is proposed for predicting metal surface roughness produced by different machining methods. Compared with other methods, the TM method is more accurate and has a shorter training time in the presence of angle deviation. The experimental results demonstrate that the TM method is suitable for texture extraction in an automatic system.

UV laser decontamination of chemical warfare agent simulants CEPS and malathion

Seong-Yeon Lee et al.

Summary: UV laser irradiation was applied for decontamination of CEPS and malathion simulants, with 266 nm laser showing efficient decontamination for CEPS by producing the byproduct diphenyl disulfide. However, decontamination with 355 and 532 nm on CEPS, as well as 266 nm on malathion, was relatively inefficient. The study emphasized the importance of selecting proper laser wavelengths and supported the photochemical mechanism of UV laser decontamination.
