Free vibration and sound insulation of functionally graded honeycomb sandwich plates

Fenglian Li et al.

Summary: Based on the hyperbolic tangent shear deformation theory, this paper studies the free vibration and sound insulation of functionally graded honeycomb sandwich plates with negative Poisson's ratio. By establishing dynamic equations and comparing with finite element simulation results, the theoretical models' accuracy and efficiency are proven. It is found that FG honeycomb cores with negative Poisson's ratio can yield lower frequencies.

Active vibration control of smart porous conical shell with elastic boundary under impact loadings using GDQM and IQM

Y. X. Hao et al.

Summary: This paper studies the active damping control of porous metal foam truncated conical shell using smart material macro fiber composite (MFC). Different boundary conditions are achieved by varying the spring stiffnesses. Three types of porosity distributions are considered along the thickness direction of the conical shell. The dynamic equations of the system are derived using the first order shear deformation theory and energy principle. The control system is validated through numerical calculations and comparisons with other methods. The effects of control gain, external excitation, semi-vertex angle, and spring stiffness on the transient response control are investigated.

Contact vibration analysis of the functionally graded material coated half-space under a rigid spherical punch

Xin Lyu et al.

Summary: This paper studies the contact vibration problem of an elastic half-space coated with functionally graded materials (FGMs) subject to a rigid spherical punch. The static contact problem of FGMs is solved by a least-square fitting approach, and the dynamic contact pressure is solved using the perturbation method. The dynamic contact stiffness with different dynamic contact displacement conditions is derived, and the effects of various parameters on the dynamic contact stiffness factor are discussed.

Impact of the acoustic transmission path on the vibro-acoustic performance of sandwich panels with structural cores with bandgap behavior

Vanessa Cool et al.

Summary: This work investigates the impact of the ignored acoustic transmission path on the sound transmission loss of sandwich panels with structural periodic cores exhibiting bandgap behavior. It highlights the importance of considering both the structural and acoustic paths during the design phase to accurately predict the vibro-acoustic performance of these novel sandwich panel configurations.

Vibration analysis of porous metal foam plates rested on viscoelastic substrate

Farzad Ebrahimi et al.

Summary: This paper solves the vibration problem of a rectangular plate consisting of porous metal foam placed on a viscoelastic substrate using an analytical method, taking into account the influences of various porosity distributions. The results show that an increase in the porosity coefficient can significantly decrease the frequency of the plate, and the stiffness of the system is less decreased when a symmetrically porous metal foam is used to manufacture the plate.

Hui Li et al.

Summary: The present study introduces an integrated material and structure (IMAS) design method for fabricating a multifunctional grille composite sandwich plate, which achieves vibration sensing and damping control functions through the combination of panels and core with different functional units and methods. An analytical model based on complex modulus method, polynomial expansion approach, and improved Rayleigh-Ritz method is proposed to investigate the free vibration and damping characteristics of the sandwich structure, with dynamic experiments conducted for further validation of the model.

Buckling and vibro-acoustic characteristics of the trapezoidal corrugated sandwich plate in thermal environment

Feng-Lian Li et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the buckling, vibration, and sound transmission characteristics of a simply supported sandwich plate with a trapezoidal corrugated core in a thermal environment using the hyperbolic tangent parabola shear deformation theory (HTPSDT). The theoretical models for the plate's behavior are derived from Hamilton's principle and acoustic theory, and numerical results for natural frequencies and sound transmission loss under different temperature variations are presented. Validation and parametric studies are conducted to analyze the influences of various factors on the plate's critical buckling temperature, fundamental frequency, and sound transmission loss.
