Boundary layer modeling of surface residual tension in postbuckling behavior of axially loaded silicon panels at nanoscale embedded in elastic foundations

Xianjie Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the nonlinear buckling and postbuckling properties of cylindrical silicon nanopanels of finite length under axial compression. The surface free energy effect is taken into account, and the size-dependent governing equations are derived. It is found that the surface effect shifts the minimum point of postbuckling domain to lower or higher maximum deflections, depending on the surface elastic constant values.

Size-dependent free vibration and buckling analysis of magneto-electro-thermo-elastic nanoplates based on the third-order shear deformable nonlocal plate model

Yousef Gholami et al.

Summary: This paper develops a size-dependent nanoplate model to describe the free vibration and buckling behaviors of magneto-electro-thermo-elastic (METE) rectangular nanoplates. The model considers external electric voltage, external magnetic potential, and uniform temperature rise. The model has the advantages of not requiring a correction factor and being applicable to thick nanoplates. Numerical results show that the frequency and critical buckling load of nanoplates are mainly influenced by magneto-electro-mechanical loadings, while they are less affected by thermal loading.

Couple stress-based dynamic stability analysis of functionally graded composite truncated conical microshells with magnetostrictive facesheets embedded within nonlinear viscoelastic foundations

Lingjiao Fan et al.

Summary: This paper examines the size-dependent dynamic stability of axially loaded functionally graded composite truncated conical microshells, considering magnetostrictive facesheets and nonlinear viscoelastic foundations. The study reveals that the significance of couple stress type of size dependency on frequency increases from prebuckling to postbuckling domain, while an increase in material gradient index decreases its importance. Additionally, applying positive and negative magnetic fields to the microshells results in frequency changes at specific axial load values in prebuckling and postbuckling domains.
