Auxiliary resource planning in a flexible flow shop scheduling problem considering stage skipping

Ali Hasani et al.

Summary: In this paper, a flexible flow shop scheduling problem is investigated, where machine eligibility and sequence-dependent setup times are introduced to handle the availability constraints of auxiliary resources. A mixed-integer linear programming model is developed to minimize the makespan and determine the number of required auxiliary resources. Genetic algorithm, simulated annealing, and enhanced particle swarm optimization are employed for computational comparisons.
