Conventional agrochemicals towards nano-biopesticides: an overview on recent advances

Danial Abdollahdokht et al.

Summary: Pesticides are classified into different categories based on their structure, and they are toxic to both humans and pests. They have adverse effects on the environment, beneficial biota, and public health. Pesticide exposure can occur through various means, and the use of nanotechnology and biopesticides offers potential for developing environmentally friendly, safe, and efficient pesticides.

Functionalized halloysite nanotubes as chlorpyrifos carriers with high adhesion and temperature response for controlling of beet armyworm

Yan Qin et al.

Summary: This study presents a temperature-responsive pesticide release system with strong adhesion to leaves. The system showed excellent performance in enhancing pesticide utilization and protecting crops from beet armyworm. The sustained release system demonstrated thermosensitive characteristics, resulting in improved retention rate on corn leaves and enhanced UV-shielding performance of CPF.

A temperature-responsive release cellulose-based microcapsule loaded with chlorpyrifos for sustainable pest control

Douxin Xiao et al.

Summary: A temperature-responsive release microcapsule loaded with chlorpyrifos showed high pesticide-loading efficiency, adhesion on plant foliage, and protection against photodegradation. The controlled-release characteristics of the microcapsule could be adjusted based on temperature changes and the efficacy against pests was positively correlated with temperature-induced release rate changes. The acute toxicity of the microcapsule to zebrafish was significantly reduced compared to conventional pesticide formulations. These findings suggest that the microcapsule release system has great potential in developing effective and environmentally friendly pesticide formulations.

Bioinspired Biomaterial Composite for All-Water-Based High-Performance Adhesives

Marco Lo Presti et al.

Summary: The bioinspired adhesive composite presented here combines the adhesive mechanisms of mussels and barnacles through a blend of silk, polydopamine, and Fe3+ ions in an organic, nontoxic water-based formulation. It shows remarkable adhesive properties in both dry and wet conditions, comparable to the best underwater adhesives, with the advantage of having an entirely biological composition.
