Two-Dimensional WO3-Transition-Metal Dichalcogenide Vertical Heterostructures for Nitrogen Fixation: A Photo(Electro) Catalysis Theoretical Strategy

Haoran Guo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the construction of a novel vertical heterostructure using two-dimensional WO3 and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) for efficient photo(electro)catalysis in the nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR). Computational results show that the heterostructures are thermodynamically stable and molecular dynamics simulations reveal the photocatalytic mechanism. The optimized WO3-MoS2 heterostructure exhibits the lowest onset potential and enhancing the catalytic activity can be achieved by repositioning the d-band center. These findings offer a new avenue for developing cost-effective alternatives for nitrogen fixation.

Facile Synthesis of Highly Dispersed and Well-Alloyed Bimetallic Nanoparticles on Oxide Support

Yu-Ping Qiu et al.

Summary: Supported alloy catalysts are important in heterogeneous catalytic processes, but the synthesis of supported alloy nanoparticles with consistent composition and size distribution is challenging. In this paper, a simple and effective method for preparing highly dispersed, homogeneously alloyed bimetallic nanoparticles on oxide supports is reported. The method involves the solid solution of metal cations in the oxide and the electrostatic adsorption of a secondary metal species onto the oxide surface, followed by reductive annealing to induce metal exsolution and homogeneous alloying on the oxide surface. The applicability and generality of this method are demonstrated using different oxides and base-noble metal pairs.

Boosting Electrocatalytic Hydrazine Oxidation Reaction on High-Index Faceted Au Concave Trioctahedral Nanocrystals

Feng Liu et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of high-index faceted Au nanocrystals as efficient catalysts in the electrocatalytic hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR). Theoretical calculations reveal that the Au(551) surface is more active than the Au (111) surface, and the step atoms on the Au(551) surface enhance HzOR. Experimentally, concave trioctahedral Au nanocrystals enclosed by {551} high-index facets showed excellent electrocatalytic performance for HzOR. The study provides new insights into electrocatalytic HzOR over Au high-index facets and presents a rational design of high-performance electrocatalysts.
