Semiconducting Polymers for Oxygen Evolution Reaction under Light Illumination

Yuanxing Fang et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the photocatalytic technologies and materials of polymeric photocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Two practical systems, namely particle suspension and film-based photoelectrochemical systems, are discussed. The concept is reviewed in terms of thermodynamics and kinetics, and the key characteristics of polymeric photocatalysts, such as light absorption, charge separation and transfer, and surface oxidation reactions, are examined. Satisfactory OER performance by polymeric photocatalysts could lead to cost-effective, sustainable, and renewable water splitting and other advanced applications using solar energy.

Cao Cheng et al.

Summary: TiO2/WO3·H2O (TW) heterojunction gas sensor shows high sensitivity, excellent selectivity, and long-term stability in detecting NH3. The improvement in NH3 detection performance of TW heterojunction is mainly attributed to the increased oxygen free radicals on the surface caused by TiO2 nanoparticles, leading to more reactions with NH3 molecules to release more electrons.

Photocatalytic Water Splitting Reaction Catalyzed by Ion-Exchanged Salts of Potassium Poly(heptazine imide) 2D Materials

Sudhir K. Sahoo et al.

Summary: Potassium poly (heptazine imide) (K-PHI) is a two-dimensional carbon-nitride material that can be exchanged with ions to change its properties for designing catalysts. Different ion-exchanged salts of K-PHI were studied for water splitting photocatalysis, with Mg-PHI showing remarkable performance in hydrogen evolution. Ru-PHI was found to be unsuitable for photocatalysis due to its narrow band gap, while H-PHI, Au-PHI, and Mg-PHI are active for both oxygen and hydrogen evolution reactions.
