Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria Significantly Improves Growth Attributes and Photosynthetic Machinery in Wheat

Tahir Naqqash et al.

Summary: This study isolated Enterobacter spp. microbes with potential to promote plant growth from the rhizosphere of Cyperus rotundus L., demonstrating their effectiveness as biofertilizers without affecting normal plant growth. The isolated strains showed various plant growth-promoting traits and significantly improved wheat plant growth and photosynthetic machinery in greenhouse experiments. These findings highlight the importance of exploring weed rhizosphere for novel beneficial microbes for sustainable agriculture practices.

Summary: In this study, beneficial plant growth-promoting endophytic bacteria (PGPEB) were isolated from the root-endosphere of wheat plants in Egypt. These bacteria were found to promote plant growth and alleviate water deficit stress. Greenhouse and field experiments showed that bacterial inoculation significantly improved the growth and yield of wheat plants, especially under water deficit stress conditions.

Improved Phosphorus Uptake by Wheat Plant (Triticum aestivum L.) with Rhizosphere Fluorescent Pseudomonads Strains Under Water-Deficit Stress

Jamal Karimzadeh et al.

Summary: The study focused on characterizing fluorescent pseudomonads isolates from dryland wheat, demonstrating their tolerance to salinity and drought as well as their potential for promoting plant growth. Two effective strains were identified to enhance phosphorus uptake by wheat plants in saline calcareous soil under water-deficit stress. Overall, the results suggest that these isolates have the capability to improve P uptake by plants under stress conditions.

Climate impact and adaptation to heat and drought stress of regional and global wheat production

Diego N. L. Pequeno et al.

Summary: The study simulated the impacts of climate change on global wheat production and found that climate change is projected to negatively affect global wheat production, especially in developing countries in tropical regions. Introducing new crop genetic traits as an adaptation to climate change improved wheat yield, particularly when combined with additional nitrogen fertilizer. Region-specific adaptation strategies need to be explored to maximize the benefits of adaptations to climate change across the globe.

Summary: Drought stress is expected to have negative impacts on plant growth and productivity, but plants have evolved complex physiological and biochemical mechanisms to adapt to water-deficient environments. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) also play a significant role in alleviating plant drought stress, enhancing drought tolerance through various mechanisms such as producing volatile compounds and phytohormones.

The ACC deaminase-producing plant growth-promoting bacteria: Influences of bacterial strains and ACC deaminase activities in plant tolerance to abiotic stress

Aung Htay Naing et al.

Summary: Global climate change leads to frequent occurrences and/or long durations of abiotic stress, affecting plant growth. Plants modulate ethylene to tolerate stress, but excessive stress can cause ethylene levels to surpass thresholds, leading to reduced growth and productivity. Utilizing ACC deaminase-producing PGPB or developing transgenic plants may be potential solutions to mitigate stress-induced ethylene effects and promote agricultural sustainability.
