Sound absorption of porous materials perforated with holes having gradually varying radii

Xuewei Liu et al.

Summary: A multiscale theoretical model and a finite element model were established to investigate the sound absorption of porous materials with holes of gradually varying radii. Experimental measurements were conducted to validate the models, and the results showed that the radius of the perforation holes and their shapes play a key role in improving the sound absorption performance of the materials. This study provides helpful guidance for enhancing sound absorption of microporous materials through multiscale design approach.

Acoustic absorption modeling of single and multiple coiled-up resonators

Aurora Magnani et al.

Summary: This work proposes an improved design procedure for sound absorption metamaterials using acoustic coiled-up quarter-wave resonators to broaden the range of possible applications, even in low-frequency regime. Various models were used to understand sound propagation in different types of tubes and to accurately model visco-thermal loss within the structures. An analytical model was developed to define different loss contributions and a geometric parameterization procedure was conducted to maximize acoustic absorption at specific target frequencies.

Numerical investigations about the sound transmission loss of a fuselage panel section with embedded periodic foams

Dario Magliacano et al.

Summary: This paper investigates a new fuselage panel configuration with a meta-core solution to passively improve acoustic performance. Numerical simulations show that the new meta-core solution can significantly enhance sound transmission loss, with different geometric parameters affecting performance.

Low-frequency sound absorption of a metamaterial with symmetrical-coiled-up spaces

Gildean do N. Almeida et al.

Summary: This study presents a theoretical, numerical, and experimental investigation of a low-frequency acoustic absorber. By improving the acoustic metamaterial design, the absorber achieved a sound absorption efficiency of over 91% in the desired frequency range. The experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical model, validating the design approach for the new absorber.

On the assembly of Archimedean spiral cavities for sound absorption applications: Design, optimization and experimental validation

Augusto Carvalho de Sousa et al.

Summary: This study presents the design, optimization, and combination of fully parameterized Archimedean spiral cavities for achieving perfect absorption below 1000 Hz. Experimental results show that the assembly of two ASCs in the same system can achieve almost perfect absorption peaks at 700 Hz and 800 Hz.
