Oxidative stress mediated platelet activation in patients with congenital analbuminemia: Effect of albumin infusion

Francesco Baratta et al.

Summary: In this study, two cases of congenital analbuminemia were reported, showing abnormal platelet aggregation, activation, and oxidative stress in these patients. Additionally, albumin infusion was found to reduce platelet activation by decreasing oxidative stress.

Long-term Impact of Perioperative Red Blood Cell Transfusion on Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery

Ibrahim Sultan et al.

Summary: Patients undergoing cardiac surgery who require perioperative packed red blood cell transfusions are associated with increased postoperative complications, hospital readmissions, and long-term mortality. The total units of packed red blood cells transfused are directly correlated with mortality and readmissions.

Albumin use in bleeding cardiac surgical patients and associated patient outcomes

Ciara Hanley et al.

Summary: The study analyzed current clinical practices in 11 cardiac surgical centers and found that albumin use is common but highly variable. Early and late albumin administration were associated with different blood characteristics. However, albumin use was not associated with improved patient outcomes.
