Biologic and Clinical Efficacy of LentiGlobin for Sickle Cell Disease

Julie Kanter et al.

Summary: The LentiGlobin gene therapy for sickle cell disease showed promising results, with significant improvements in hemoglobin levels and complete resolution of severe vaso-occlusive events in 35 patients. Adverse events related to treatment were minimal and no cases of hematologic cancer were observed during the follow-up period. Preliminary findings suggest the potential therapeutic efficacy of this treatment.

Influence of cardiopulmonary exercise test on platelet function in patients with coronary artery diseases on antiplatelet therapy

Chun Yin et al.

Summary: This study found that platelet aggregation was enhanced in stable CAD patients undergoing cardiac rehabilitation, despite receiving antiplatelet treatment. The enhancement was mainly due to an increase in platelet count, rather than single platelet activation.

Neutropenia in patients with hyperthyroidism: Systematic review and meta-analysis

Lorenzo Scappaticcio et al.

Summary: Neutropenia is associated with about 10% of patients with Graves' disease. However, treating hyperthyroidism can lead to resolution of neutropenia without worsening ANC values or developing agranulocytosis. This indicates a significant chance for normalizing ANC while treating hyperthyroidism.

Protective role of estrogen against excessive erythrocytosis in Monge's disease

Priti Azad et al.

Summary: Estrogen plays a protective role against chronic mountain sickness in pre-menopausal women, potentially offering a treatment option for the condition. Research has shown that estrogen can regulate red blood cell levels by controlling cell death mechanisms, indicating its significant impact on erythropoiesis regulation in chronic hypoxic conditions.

Direct Bilirubin Is More Valuable than Total Bilirubin for Predicting Prognosis in Patients with Liver Cirrhosis

Han Ah Lee et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the prognostic performance of serum direct bilirubin (DB) in patients with liver cirrhosis and developed new prediction models based on DB levels. The results showed that the DB-MELD and DiBIC scores had better prognostic performance compared to other existing models, making them valuable tools for predicting outcomes in liver cirrhosis patients.

Ribociclib Population Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Analysis of Neutrophils in Cancer Patients

Yasong Lu et al.

Summary: The population pharmacokinetics and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic relationship of ribociclib in cancer patients, specifically in relation to absolute neutrophil count, were characterized and validated. The findings suggest that ribociclib can be used in combination with aromatase inhibitors or fulvestrant without dose adjustment in certain subpopulations, and reducing the dose might mitigate the risk of treatment-emergent neutropenia.

Summary: Platelets play an essential role in COPD pathophysiology, with higher platelet counts and PLR observed in stable COPD patients compared to non-COPD subjects. Furthermore, AECOPD patients exhibit elevated PLR values compared to stable COPD patients, highlighting potential biomarkers for COPD management and prognosis.

Application of 7.0 T ultra-high-field MRI in evaluating the structure and function of the right ventricle of the heart in rats under a chronic hypoxic environment at high altitude

Yanqiu Sun et al.

Summary: The study used 7.0 T MRI to detect cardiac structure and function indicators of rats in high-altitude plateau and plain environments. Results showed that chronic hypoxia at high altitude could lead to abnormalities in cardiac structure and function, highlighting the importance of early monitoring and intervention.

Cardiovascular Indicators of Systemic Circulation and Acute Mountain Sickness: An Observational Cohort Study

Summary: Our study found that AMS patients had lower pulse pressure and effective arterial elastance at low altitude. Multivariate regression analysis showed that female sex, lower daytime pulse pressure, and lower effective arterial elastance were independent risk factors for AMS. Combined analysis of daytime pulse pressure and effective arterial elastance at low altitude had a high predictive value for AMS.
