Is acid suppression associated with the increased length of stay in diabetic ketoacidosis patients? A nationwide analysis

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the delayed rise of serum HCO3- to >15 mEq/L in DKA patients on acid-suppressive medications, which may lead to increased hospital length of stay. It found that DKA patients with PUD had higher adjusted LOS, ICU admission rate, and total hospital costs, but similar mortality and morbidity indicators compared to those without PUD.

Predictive models and interventions have shown promise in reducing readmission risk among diabetes patients, but more research, especially in the context of COVID-19, is needed to further improve healthcare quality and reduce costs.

Epidemiology, genetic landscape and classification of childhood diabetes mellitus in the State of Qatar

Summary: This study is the first prospective and comprehensive research on the epidemiology and genetic landscape of childhood diabetes mellitus in Qatar. It reveals a higher incidence and prevalence of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in Qatari children compared to non-Qatari, with Qatar having the fourth highest incidence of type 1 diabetes mellitus in the world. Additionally, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Qatar is higher compared to Western countries.
