Construction of Covalent Organic Frameworks via a Visible-Light- Activated Photocatalytic Multicomponent Reaction

Guang-Bo Wang et al.

Summary: Photocatalytic multicomponent reactions can be used for the synthesis of covalent organic frameworks (COFs), and photoredox-catalyzed multicomponent Petasis reaction can successfully synthesize COFs with excellent crystallinity, stability, and permanent porosity. The obtained Cy-N3-COF exhibits excellent photoactivity and recyclability for the visible-light-driven oxidative hydroxylation of arylboronic acids. The concept of photocatalytic multicomponent polymerization not only enriches the methodology for COF synthesis but also opens a new avenue for the construction of COFs that might not be possible with the existing synthetic methods based on thermally driven MCRs.

Enhanced CO2 Photoreduction through Spontaneous Charge Separation in End-Capping Assembly of Heterostructured Covalent-Organic Frameworks

Huaxing Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel method was developed to achieve spontaneous charge separation in covalent-organic frameworks (COFs) by post-treating them with end-capping polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The resulting modified COFs showed significantly enhanced photocatalytic performance, making it feasible to engineer the charge-separation properties of crystalline porous frameworks for artificial photosynthesis.

Building a Pyrazole-Benzothiadiazole-Pyrazole Photosensitizer into Metal-Organic Frameworks for Photocatalytic Aerobic Oxidation

Ji-Kang Jin et al.

Summary: Charge separation is crucial in regulating photochemical properties in photocatalysts design. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising candidates for heterogeneous photocatalysis due to their designability and photon absorption tunability. A pyrazole-benzothiadiazole-pyrazole organic molecule with a donor-acceptor-donor conjugated pi-system was designed for fast charge separation, resulting in a more effective heterogeneous photocatalyst JNU-204, which demonstrated stability and reusability in aerobic oxidation reactions under visible-light irradiation. JNU-204 also showed applications in the synthesis of marine natural product core skeletons.

Acid-triggered interlayer sliding of two-dimensional copper(i)-organic frameworks: more metal sites for catalysis

Hou-Gan Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, a pair of isostructural 2D copper(i) organic frameworks with different interlayer stacking structures were successfully prepared by combining the chemistry of MOFs and COFs. The variation in interlayer stacking significantly influences their functionality, including porosity, chemical stability, and catalytic activities. Additionally, a structure transformation between the two frameworks was achieved by a simple addition of trifluoroacetic acid, resulting in in situ acceleration of adoption rate, which is uncommon in 2D MOFs and COFs.
