Highly Reactive Hydrocarbon Soluble Alkylsodium Reagents for Benzylic Aroylation of Toluenes using Weinreb Amides

David E. Anderson et al.

Summary: Deaggregation of alkyl sodium NaCH2SiMe3 with polydentate nitrogen ligands allows the preparation and characterization of new, hydrocarbon soluble chelated alkylsodium reagents. These systems, equipped with significantly enhanced metalating power, can promote controlled sodiation of weakly acidic benzylic C-H bonds from a series of toluene derivatives under mild stoichiometric conditions. The successful isolation and determination of the structures of key organometallic intermediates provide useful mechanistic insights into these new sodium-mediated transformations.

Recent Progress in Transition Metal-Catalyzed Hydrosilane-Mediated C-H Silylation

Yuanfang Kong et al.

Summary: Organosilicon compounds are widely used in materials science, medicinal chemistry, and synthetic chemistry. Recent developments in transition metal-catalyzed dehydrogenative C-H silylation have led to the emergence of monohydrosilane and dihydrosilane mediated C-H silylation as powerful tools for constructing C-Si bonds. These advancements also include the successful construction of central and helical silicon chirality through dihydrosilane-mediated enantioselective asymmetric C-H silylation. Furthermore, chiral organosilicon compounds exhibit excellent photoelectric material properties and have broad application prospects.

Synthesis of Benzhydryl-Substituted Amines by Silanolate-Mediated Aldimine Arylation with Functionalized Aryl Nucleophiles Released from Diazene-Based Reagents

Aliyaah J. M. Rahman et al.

Summary: The transition-metal-free protocol allows for the arylation of N-phenyl and N-benzoyl-substituted, benzaldehyde-derived imine derivatives with functionalized aryl pronucleophiles. Aryl nucleophiles are released from silicon protected aryl-substituted diazenes through desilylation with potassium trimethylsilanolate, simultaneously losing dinitrogen.

Transition-Metal-Free Coupling of Polyfluorinated Arenes and Functionalized, Masked Aryl Nucleophiles

Lucie Finck et al.

Summary: This study presents a chemoselective C(sp(2))-C(sp(2)) coupling of electron-deficient fluorinated arenes and functionalized N-aryl-N'-silyldiazenes as masked aryl nucleophiles. The fluoride-promoted transformation involves in situ generation of aryl nucleophiles with sensitive functional groups followed by a stepwise SNAr reaction. These reactions proceed rapidly at room temperature, allowing for functionalization of both coupling partners and yielding highly fluorinated biaryls in good yields.

Exploring benzylic gem-C(sp3)-boron-silicon and boron-tin centers as a synthetic platform

Wei W. Chen et al.

Summary: This report discusses the stepwise construction of multi-substituted C(sp)TJ0VL(3)X carbon centers using gem-alpha,alpha-dimetalloid-substituted benzylic reagents. Highly chemoselective transformations of C-Si (or C-Sn) or C-B bonds in gem-C-sp(3) centers were achieved through various approaches, including metal-free arylation guided by iodanes and Suzuki-Miyaura arylation. DFT calculations show that the transfer of (alpha-Bpin)benzyl group proceeds via an unusual [5,5]-sigmatropic rearrangement driven by high-energy iodine(iii) center.
