Circularly Polarized Luminescence of Some [2]Paracyclo[2](5,8)quinoliphane Derivatives with Planar and Central Chirality

Giuseppe Mazzeo et al.

Summary: Testing nine [2]paracyclo[2](5,8)-quinoliphane derivatives to find new simple organic molecules generating circularly polarized luminescence (CPL), the study observes asymmetry ratios g of the order 10^(-3) in luminescence, similar to the absorption case. TD-DFT calculations provide insight into the molecular orbitals responsible for transitions in the observed signals of these molecules, explaining the behaviors of the |g(lum)|/|g(abs)| ratios.

Molecular self-induced configuration for improving dissymmetry factors in tetradentate platinum(II) enantiomers cycloaddition

Li Yuan et al.

Summary: Two pairs of Pt(II) enantiomers with good circularly polarized luminescence and tunable dissymmetry factors were successfully synthesized by using (RR)/(SS)-1,2-diphenylethane-1,2-diamine as carbon chiral sources. This method ingeniously avoids the formation of racemic mixture and chiral separation, and significantly improves the dissymmetry factors through the chirality originating from both chiral carbon centres and helicene-like structure.

Masahiro Ikeshita et al.

Summary: The relationship between coordination geometry and photophysical properties of trans-bis[(beta-iminomethyl)naphthoxy]platinum(II) was investigated experimentally and theoretically. Different platinum(II) complexes with various iminomethyl groups were synthesized, and their photophysical properties were studied in solution, crystalline state, and PMMA film-dispersed state. The emission spectra of these complexes showed structure-dependent characteristics, and the chiroptical properties of chiral complexes were enhanced by bulky cyclic substituents at the nitrogen atoms.

Summary: This study introduces a new concept of CPL brightness (B-CPL), which takes into consideration the absorption extinction coefficient and quantum yield in addition to the g(lum) factor, to comprehensively evaluate the efficiency of CPL emitters. By calculating B-CPL values for over 180 compounds and analyzing the data distribution for main classes of CPL molecular emitters, this tool can aid in contextualizing new CPL active compounds and guiding the selection of molecular systems for specific CPL applications.

Pathways to increase the dissymmetry in the interaction of chiral light and chiral molecules

Jake L. Greenfield et al.

Summary: The dissymmetric interaction between circularly polarised light and chiral molecules is important across various fields, but the selectivity in absorption or emission of left-handed versus right-handed CP light is often low. Strategies to enhance this interaction include molecular design, modification of light, and creating macroscopic chiral structures, offering hope for advancements in research involving interactions of chiral molecules and light.
