Oral drug delivery platforms for biomedical applications

Jiang Ouyang et al.

Summary: Oral administration is widely used for drug delivery due to its non-invasiveness and simplicity. However, conventional delivery methods may result in low drug bioavailability, particularly for biologics. To overcome this, various carriers have been developed to protect and enhance drug absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. This review summarizes different drug molecules used for oral administration, discusses physiological barriers and targeting regions in the GI tract, reviews recent oral drug delivery platforms, and presents future perspectives and challenges.

Post Transplantation Bilirubin Nanoparticles Ameliorate Murine Graft Versus Host Disease via a Reduction of Systemic and Local Inflammation

Sumedha Pareek et al.

Summary: This study found that post-transplantation treatment with bilirubin nanoparticles (BRNP) can reduce the occurrence of graft versus host disease (GVHD). BRNP can alleviate tissue damage, reduce inflammation, and regulate immune responses, thereby improving the clinical manifestations and survival rates of GVHD.

Bilirubin nanomedicine ameliorates the progression of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis by modulating dendritic cells

Tae Woo Kim et al.

Summary: BRNPs have shown potential in delaying disease onset, suppressing disease progression and severity, and reducing disease incidence rate in the EAE mouse model, without the need for systemic immunosuppression. Studies have found that BRNPs negatively regulate the differentiation of naive CD4(+) T cells into Th17 cells by scavenging reactive oxygen species.
