Cysteamine mitigates torsion/detorsion-induced reperfusion injury via inhibition of apoptosis, oxidative stress and inflammatory responses in experimental rat model

Oladele Afolabi et al.

Summary: The study found that cysteamine plays an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic role in testicular torsion/detorsion reperfusion injury. Cysteamine reversed the oxidative stress, inflammation markers, and reduced sperm motility seen in IRI rats. Additionally, cysteamine inhibited apoptosis in the testicular tissue, providing protection against reperfusion injury.

Minocycline can reduce testicular apoptosis related to varicocele in male rats

Majid Shokoohi et al.

Summary: The current study aimed to assess the effects of Minocycline on testicular injury caused by varicocele, focusing on apoptotic-related genes and oxidative stress. The results demonstrated that Minocycline administration improved testicular injury and reduced apoptosis rate, possibly through its antioxidant activity.

Chrysin abrogates gibberellic acid-induced testicular oxidative stress and dysfunction via the regulation of antioxidants and steroidogenesis- and apoptosis-associated genes

Mohamed Mohamed Soliman et al.

Summary: GA3 is commonly used as a growth stimulant in agriculture, but long-term use can cause organ damage. Chrysin, a natural flavonoid, has been found to treat organ toxicity. This study investigated the effect of chrysin on testicular function in rats affected by GA3. The results showed that chrysin could reduce the harmful effects of GA3 by restoring reproductive hormone levels, sperm parameters, and antioxidant capabilities. Chrysin also protected the testes from GA3-induced damage and inhibited oxidative stress and apoptosis. Chrysin has the potential to repair GA3-induced testicular dysfunctions, making it a preferable medication to mitigate GA3-induced oxidative damage in the testes.

Chrysin reduces inflammation and oxidative stress and improves ovarian function in D-gal-induced premature ovarian failure

Xinning Li et al.

Summary: Chrysin regulates hormone expression and weight, inhibits inflammation and oxidative stress, improves ovarian function in animals with POF, and inhibits apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells. Furthermore, Chrysin targets ER beta and activates its expression. This suggests that Chrysin has potential for the treatment of POF.

New insights into ischemia-reperfusion injury signaling pathways in organ transplantation

Kenneth J. Dery et al.

Summary: This review discusses the impact of ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) on solid organ transplant recipients and summarizes recent research progress in this field. Key factors leading to IRI have been identified, as well as the balance between protective functions and harmful inflammatory pathways. Clinical studies have revealed variables associated with early allograft dysfunction and IRI. The future challenge lies in understanding the molecular and cellular interactions that predict peri-transplant signals essential for long-term clinical outcomes.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of simultaneous use of Cyclosporine A (CsA) and Nortriptyline (Nort) in repairing testicular damages in an experimental torsion/detorsion (T/D) rat model. The results showed that CsA and Nort have antioxidant and anti-apoptotic characteristics and provide protective effects against T/D induced damages.

Long-term follow-up results of testicular torsion in children

Cheng-Jun Yu et al.

Summary: A retrospective cohort study was conducted to investigate the long-term follow-up results after testicular torsion (TT) in children. The study found that approximately 56.6% of patients who underwent salvage orchiopexy had testicular atrophy (TA), and age less than 6 years, delayed surgery, and intraoperative poor blood supply were associated with TA in pediatric TT after orchiopexy. Most testicular atrophy occurred within 3-6 months after surgery. Contralateral testicular volumes were larger in the orchiopexy and orchiectomy groups compared to age-matched healthy controls. The study suggests that follow-up before 3 months after surgery may not offer sufficient clinical value, while that 3 months after surgery should be regarded as the first follow-up time for testicular monitoring.

Ameliorative impacts of chrysin against gibberellic acid-induced liver and kidney damage through the regulation of antioxidants, oxidative stress, inflammatory cytokines, and apoptosis biomarkers

Mohamed Mohamed Soliman et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective effect of chrysin against liver and kidney dysfunction induced by gibberellic acid (GA3). The results showed that pre-administration of chrysin significantly attenuated the harmful effects of GA3 on liver and kidney tissues and restored their functions and antioxidant abilities to normal levels. Furthermore, chrysin modulated the toxic effects of GA3 at the molecular level by regulating the expression of various signaling pathways, including upregulation of antiapoptotic genes, downregulation of kidney injury markers and pro-inflammatory cytokines, and regulation of cytochrome P450. These findings suggest that chrysin has great potential in counteracting the oxidative stress induced by GA3.
