Native Electrospray Ionization of Multi-Domain Proteins via a Bead Ejection Mechanism

Nina Khristenko et al.

Summary: Native ion mobility mass spectrometry has potential applications in the biophysical characterization of proteins, as the charge state distribution and collision cross section distribution depend on the solution conformation. This study investigates the charging and gas-phase conformation of multi-domain therapeutic proteins with globular domains tethered by disordered linkers. The results suggest a hybrid ionization mechanism, where globular domains are ejected one at a time from a parent droplet.

Grotthuss Molecular Dynamics Simulations for Modeling Proton Hopping in Electrosprayed Water Droplets

Lars Konermann et al.

Summary: The authors have developed a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation technique to model the behavior of excess protons in water solutions. By combining atomistic MD simulations with proton hopping, they were able to capture the Grotthuss diffusion mechanism. The technique was applied to study highly charged water droplets and showed consistent behavior with experimental data.

Role of Calcium in Modulating the Conformational Landscape and Peptide Binding Induced Closing of Calmodulin

Catherine Ghosh et al.

Summary: Metal ions, especially calcium, play crucial roles in cellular functions. This study investigates how calcium affects the conformation dynamics of calmodulin and its interaction with the target protein smMLCK. The findings suggest that while calcium-independent, calcium can regulate the binding site of smMLCK peptide on calmodulin.
