Application of Magnetic Fe3O4 Alnus glutinosa Sawdust Biochar/SiO2/CTAB as a New Sorbent for Magnetic Solid Phase Extraction of Heavy Metals from Fruit and Waters Samples

Celal Duran et al.

Summary: The current paper presents the first description of the coating of magnetic Fe(3)O(4)Alnus glutinosa sawdust biochar with SiO2 and functionalising it with CTAB. This method efficiently separates and preconcentrates Cu2+, Cd2+, and Pb(2+) ions in water and fruit samples. The developed method is simple, rapid, sensitive, and economical for simultaneous determination of these ions.

Preparation of green biosorbent using rice hull to preconcentrate, remove and recover heavy metal and other metal elements from water

Yongbo Dan et al.

Summary: Sodium hydroxide-treated rice hulls showed significantly improved removal efficiency for metal ions such as Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sr, Cd, and Ba, with a fast removal kinetics. The principal removal mechanism is believed to be the electrostatic attraction between the negatively charged rice hulls and the positively charged metal ions, with a pH of 5 working best for most metal ions. Processed rice hulls provide an economic alternative for metal ion preconcentration and toxic heavy metal removal.

Extraction of Cu2+ and Co2+ by using Tricholoma populinum loaded onto Amberlite XAD-4

S. Ozdemir et al.

Summary: The study proposed an alternative preconcentration method using T. populinum for the sensitive preconcentration of Cu(2+)and Co2+, which was found to be selective for the two ions. By investigating experimental variables in the SPE process and analyzing surface functionalities of the biosorbents, the method showed good performance in sample concentration.

Simultaneous preconcentrations of Cu(II), Ni(II), and Pb(II) by SPE using E. profundum loaded onto Amberlite XAD-4

Sadin Ozdemir et al.

Summary: In this study, E. profundum loaded onto Amberlite XAD-4 resin was used for solid-phase extraction of Cu(II), Ni(II), and Pb(II). Various conditions of the SPE procedure and the effects of interfering ions were discussed. The biosorption capacities of E. profundum for Pb(II), Cu(II), and Ni(II) were determined, with LOD values and linear ranges calculated for each metal. Metal ion concentrations in water and food samples were measured using ICP-OES.

Berrin Topuz et al.

Summary: Powdered ostracod carapace of the species (Herpetocypris brevicaudata) loaded on Amberlite XAD-4 resin was used as a biosorbent for determining concentrations of trace metal ions in water samples. Optimum pH values for Cu(II), Co(II) and Mn(II) were around 10.0. The sorption capacity of AXAD-4 resin loaded with H. brevicaudata was evaluated for Cu(II), Co(II) and Mn(II) with satisfactory results.
