Combined metabolomics and machine learning algorithms to explore metabolic biomarkers for diagnosis of acute myocardial ischemia

Jie Cao et al.

Summary: Acute myocardial ischemia (AMI) is the leading cause of death worldwide, and the post-mortem diagnosis of AMI is challenging. In this study, metabolomics and machine learning algorithms were used to identify important biomarkers for AMI diagnosis in rats and autopsy-based blood samples.

A novel method for determining postmortem interval based on the metabolomics of multiple organs combined with ensemble learning techniques

Xiao-jun Lu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to establish a multi-organ stacking model that estimates postmortem interval (PMI) by analyzing differential compounds of four organs in rats. The results demonstrate that the multi-organ stacking model has high accuracy and discriminative ability, making it a potential forensic tool for accurate estimation of PMI.

Machine Learning-Based Integration of Metabolomics Characterisation Predicts Progression of Myopic Retinopathy in Children and Adolescents

Xiao-Wen Hou et al.

Summary: This study aimed to characterize the serum metabolic profile of myopic retinopathy in children and adolescents and develop a diagnostic model combining clinical and metabolic features. The results suggested that myopic retinopathy may be associated with abnormal energy metabolism. Machine learning models based on metabolic profiles and clinical data showed good predictive performance, facilitating individual interventions for myopia in children and adolescents.

Nandrolone and estradiol biomarkers identification in bovine urine applying a liquid chromatography high-resolution mass spectrometry metabolomics approach

Saadia Ouzia et al.

Summary: Through a study using reversed phase liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-high-resolution mass spectrometry, specific patterns and candidate biomarkers associated with three steroid treatments in bovine urine profiles were identified. Level-1 identification of two biomarkers related to energy pathways and skeletal muscle functioning was achieved through MS-2 structural elucidation.

Metabolic Signature of Ethanol-Induced Hepatotoxicity in HepaRG Cells by Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry-Based Untargeted Metabolomics

Elias Iturrospe et al.

Summary: Alcoholic liver disease is a common but poorly understood condition. This study investigated the metabolic alterations in HepaRG cells exposed to ethanol, identifying distinctive patterns between exposed and control cells. The study also observed potential biomarkers of ethanol-induced hepatotoxicity. These findings contribute to our understanding of the pathophysiology behind alcoholic liver disease.

Evaluating Subtle Pathological Changes in Early Myocardial Ischemia Using Spectral Histopathology

Tian Tian et al.

Summary: This study successfully detected biochemical changes in protein conformation in the early phase of myocardial ischemia using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic imaging combined with multivariate analysis. It also visually classified different disease states. FTIR imaging proves to be a powerful automated quantitative analysis tool for detecting EMI without morphological changes.

Metabolomic Profile in Venous Thromboembolism (VTE)

Beata Franczyk et al.

Summary: VTE, consisting of DVT and PE, is a major cause of cardiovascular disease. Current diagnosis and treatment guidance for VTE are limited, and there is a lack of understanding of the mechanisms and pathways responsible for the occurrence of observed alterations. The application of metabolomics profiling may play a significant role in early diagnosis and management, but more research is needed to fully understand VTE-related metabolic changes.
