Magnetic Nanoparticles Based Solid Phase Extraction Methods for the Determination of Trace Elements

Elif Ozturk Er et al.

Summary: Significant advancements in instrumental detection techniques have been made in the past three decades, leading to more accurate measurements of organic and inorganic analytes. The importance of sample preparation before instrumental reading cannot be underestimated, and solid phase extraction (SPE) and solid phase microextraction (SPME) have emerged as efficient methods for clean-up and preconcentration. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have become ideal materials for analyte extraction due to their small size and easy manipulation under a magnetic field. This review focuses on the principles of SPE and SPME, and highlights the different types of MNPs that have been used for separation and preconcentration. The application of MNPs in the determination of trace elements in environmental, biological, and food samples is also discussed.

Plasmonic Gold Nanoparticles Stain Hydrogels for the Portable and High-Throughput Monitoring of Mercury Ions

Xiao Juan Du et al.

Summary: The hybrid of L-cysteine and agarose can support the rapid growth of plasmonic gold nanoparticles in a hydrogel, offering easy operation and anti-interference performance. By preincubating the improved hydrogel in a solution containing mercury ions, specific conjugation with mercury allows for rapid and simple measurement of Hg2+ ions, as well as high-throughput and trace analysis with a low detection limit. This strategy can promote the rapid and primary assessment of water quality in environmental analysis.

Magnetic property of Fe2O3 and Fe3O4 nanoparticle prepared by solvothermal process

Jhelai Sahadevan et al.

Summary: This article reports the synthesis, structure, morphology, and magnetic properties of Fe2O3 and Fe3O4 nanoparticles prepared by solvothermal method. Ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol act as reducing agents to prevent agglomeration. Fe3O4 nanoparticles have a cubic structure, while Fe2O3 nanoparticles have a rhombohedral structure, and they exhibit different magnetic properties.
