Disease Trajectories and Impact of One Moderate Exacerbation in Gold B COPD Patients

Anders Lokke et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of a single moderate exacerbation on the odds of subsequent exacerbations and death in GOLD B COPD patients. The results showed that one moderate exacerbation increases the risk of subsequent exacerbations and death during the three following years. This emphasizes the importance of preventing exacerbations in GOLD B patients.

Large underreporting of COPD as cause of death-results from a population-based cohort study

Anne Lindberg et al.

Summary: This study found that COPD as a cause of death is often underestimated, with only 57.1% of death certificates mentioning it even in individuals with severe disease. Smoking, physician-diagnosed COPD, and male gender were independently associated with COPD as a cause of death.
