Changes in the prevalence of undernutrition, overweight and obesity in children and adolescents from Buenos Aires, Mendoza, and Misiones provinces (Argentina) over the last two decades

Maria F. Cesani et al.

Summary: This study examines changes in the prevalence of undernutrition, overweight, and obesity in Argentine children and adolescents over the past two decades, as well as their relationship with family socioeconomic conditions. The results show a decreasing trend in undernutrition and an increasing trend in overweight, obesity, and fat mass. Family socioeconomic conditions have also deteriorated, but their association with changes in nutritional status needs further investigation.

Comparison of novel markers of metabolic complications and cardiovascular risk factors between obese non-diabetic and obese type 1 diabetic children and young adults

Anna Kacka et al.

Summary: Obesity is a major contributing factor to metabolic complications and vascular risk in T1DM patients. Obese T1DM patients have worse metabolic control and insulin resistance, with higher blood pressure, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. Obese non-diabetic patients have higher fetuin-A levels, while E-selectin and osteoprotegerin levels are similar in both obesity and non-diabetic groups. The carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) is higher in T1DM and non-diabetic obese individuals compared to the reference group.
