Diagnostic Precision in the Detection of Mild Cognitive Impairment: A Comparison of Two Approaches

Andrea M. Weinstein et al.

Summary: This study compared diagnostic rates and clinical predictors between NIA-AA criteria and DSM-5 criteria, finding that discrepancies were more likely in individuals with a history of MDD or carrying at least one ApoE4 allele. Detailed neuropsychological testing and NIA-AA criteria identified a greater prevalence of cognitive impairment compared to DSM-5 criteria and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.

Association between depression, gender and Alzheimer's neuropathology in older adults without dementia

Doyoung Kim et al.

Summary: Previous studies have reported conflicting findings regarding the relationship between depression and Alzheimer's neuropathology. This cross-sectional study found that late life depression is associated with the spread of amyloid pathology beyond the neocortex, including regions critical for regulation of mood and motivated behavior.

Summary: Recent depression is independently associated with a higher risk of Alzheimer's disease, with this association being significant among women only, and not moderated by sex.

Elevated inflammatory markers in women with remitted major depressive disorder and the role of early life maltreatment

Katja Dittrich et al.

Summary: The study examines the association between major depressive disorder (MDD) and inflammation markers, suggesting that elevated levels of inflammation may persist even after MDD remission. Results indicate that physical abuse predicts CRP levels in the presence of remitted MDD, highlighting the potential influence of different types of early life maltreatment on inflammation profiles.

Association of Early β-Amyloid Accumulation and Neuroinflammation Measured With [11C] PBR28 in Elderly Individuals Without Dementia

Sini Toppala et al.

Summary: While there was no association between amyloid and neuroinflammation in the overall study group, neuroinflammation was associated with amyloid among the subgroup at early stages of amyloid pathology. Higher body mass index, HOMA-IR, and hs-CRP were associated with higher neuroinflammation in brain regions where A beta accumulation is first detected in Alzheimer disease.
