Individual bee foragers are less-efficient transporters of pollen for plants from which they collect the most pollen in their scopae

Lucia R. Weinman et al.

Summary: Bees provision most of the pollen to their larvae and transport only a small proportion to stigmas, which can negatively affect plant fitness. The efficiency of bees' pollen transport varies among host plant species, and specialization on individual foraging bouts reduces heterospecific pollen transfer but also results in less-efficient pollen transport. This suggests that bee foragers visiting predominantly one plant species may have contrasting effects on that plant's fitness.

Diversity and composition of pollen loads carried by pollinators are primarily driven by insect traits, not floral community characteristics

Nevin Cullen et al.

Summary: The characteristics of pollinators, such as body size, gender, and ecological specialization, have a greater impact on the abundance, diversity, and composition of carried pollen than floral diversity. Pollen load size and diversity are positively correlated with pollinator body size and negatively correlated with ecological specialization. The composition of pollen loads is only weakly congruent with available floral resources.
