Adiposity in the older population and the risk of dementia: The Rotterdam Study

Sanne S. S. Mooldijk et al.

Summary: This study examines the association between adiposity and incident dementia in older adults. It finds that higher total and regional fat mass are associated with a decreased risk of dementia. The protective effect of gynoid fat in women is particularly significant. These findings may be explained by reverse causality, but the possibility of a protective effect of adiposity cannot be ruled out.

Weight loss strategies, weight change, and type 2 diabetes in US health professionals: A cohort study

Keyi Si et al.

Summary: This study suggests that individuals with obesity who attempted to lose weight, regardless of the weight loss strategies used, tended to gain less body weight and have a lower risk of diabetes. In contrast, lean individuals who intentionally lost weight tended to gain more weight and have a higher risk of diabetes.

Body Mass Index Trajectories Preceding Incident Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia

Jie Guo et al.

Summary: This cohort study found that significantly lower BMI occurs approximately 7 years before the diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) among cognitively intact individuals. After MCI diagnosis, BMI declines at the same pace in people who develop dementia and those who do not. The presence of high brain pathologies may underlie the BMI decline preceding dementing disorders.

Pharmacogenomics of Medication-Induced Weight Gain and Antiobesity Medications

Sneha Singh et al.

Summary: Obesity is a chronic, multifactorial disease with many comorbidities. Pharmacogenomics may play a crucial role in managing medication-induced weight gain in obese patients, and further research is needed to fully understand its impact on antiobesity medications.
