Type 1 diabetes and microscopic colitis: A nationwide matched case-control study in Sweden

Xiaoying Kang et al.

Summary: This study examined the association between type 1 diabetes (T1D) and microscopic colitis (MC). The results showed that the prevalence of T1D was almost 80% higher in MC patients compared to the general population. This association may be related to the consumption of medications associated with MC onset.

The Incidence of Adult-Onset Type 1 Diabetes: A Systematic Review From 32 Countries and Regions

Jessica L. Harding et al.

Summary: The incidence of adult-onset type 1 diabetes is lowest in Asian countries and highest in Nordic countries, with higher rates in men than women. It is unclear whether the incidence decreases with increasing age or changes over time. This study highlights the need to better distinguish type 1 diabetes from type 2 diabetes in adults to address the true burden of type 1 diabetes in adults.

Pathogenesis of Microscopic Colitis: A Systematic Review

Yamile Zabana et al.

Summary: This study is the first systematic review on the etiology of microscopic colitis (MC) supporting the notion that MC is a multifactorial disease. However, high-profile studies are lacking, and most evidence derives from small heterogeneous studies.

The Incidence of Adult-Onset Type 1 Diabetes: A Systematic Review From 32 Countries and Regions

Jessica L. Harding et al.

Summary: This systematic review demonstrates that the incidence of adult-onset type 1 diabetes (T1D) is significant and emphasizes the urgent need to distinguish T1D from T2D in adults to better understand and address the true burden of T1D in adults.

Autoimmune diseases in microscopic colitis: A Danish nationwide case-control study

Signe Wildt et al.

Summary: Using a matched case-control design based on nationwide registry data, it was found that there is a strong association between microscopic colitis and a wide range of autoimmune diseases, particularly those of gastrointestinal origin. The results suggest an autoimmune predisposition to microscopic colitis.
